Ok fnally!!!! Dont know if yall got the news but I stupidly opened a email from American Airlines and it was loaded ith a virus that totally ate my computer. So I got a new laptop. Only to find out that all new computers desktop or lap tops no longer are made with modems, ugh as you know im still one of those few on dial-up. So its taken two more days to locate a external modem. Then trying to upload my internet company. This has been hell!!! But now i'm back!!!

Now hatch totals:

Lavender Orps- 8
Black split to Lav Orps- 5
Partridge Cochins-5
BCM split to Lav Orp-3
OE split to Lav Orp- 2
Barred Holland-3 (1 needs to be put down) It can't stand??

I don't know how you can deal with dial up. I have DSL and it's much faster and not that much more expensive. Now I do know my SIL parents can't get DSL where they are for some reason.

My desk top doesn't come with a modem but Verizon sent me one for it. Not to mention I have the old one from before we moved. Plus a bunch of other cords.

Had to buy a new DVD player and that came with cords which we didn't need either.

Brac - Do you not have a virus protection on your computer? You can down load "Spybot" for free. It's better than nothing. I also put on Norton which my Techie son recommends.

No one should NOT have some type of protection on your computer. You can NOT NOT afford it.

AVG beats the heck out of Norton. Norton can even act like a virus at times. Tom won't allow it on ours after all the trouble it caused.

Tim, some areas cannot even get DSL. We couldn't when we first moved here. Ours is super slow DSL, too.

Cyn and Brandon, congrats on your hatches. I candled the ten I had and only three were developing. I love seeing all the pics. Cyn, it sure is hard to tell with those BR's isn't it? Tim, we are on dial up here too, unless we want to get Hughes and that is not going to happen.

I chased of a fox today. It grabbed a hen that was right by the front porch. Zeke sounded the alarm and I ran out after it. The was able to get away but I thought for sure she was gone. Three years and I haven't had any trouble with predators. I guess the hawk sent out a message that there was chicken dinners at my house. The hen seems fine.

Tim I am in one of thos rare areas where they wont spend the money to run a few hundred feet of DSL cable. So i'm stuck with dial-up for now. My computer was 6 yrs old and didnt have updated virus protection. The new pc has new norton on it.

Thanks Laura I plan on taking some of the chicks to LH's swap meet next Saturday.

OMG, Laura! You chased a fox?? That is just scary to see predators looking for dinner. Good luck!

We had a flying predator today, too. It will no longer be a problem.

Yup, that's a Delaware hen, looks like to me!


Kathy, it turned out okay, I guess. None of the Orps were fertile; neither of June's were fertile, either, so Ike's diminished lung capacity is showing. Had two clear D'Anvers, two late quitter D'Anvers. The rest hatched.

I've noticed after cracking open about a dozen eggs from the main flock that Isaac's fertility isn't good and I really think his lung capacity is the culprit. He isn't chasing the hens as much, he gives up without much effort, etc. I doubt his age of 3 is the reason. I do believe it has to do with that fungal lung infection last summer. I hope he lives through this one.

That's sad. I had 2 finches that died of some kind of fungus of the lung.

I haven't had any 4 legged predators yet (4.5yrs). But I know my number will be up- so I just ordered a motion detector with the receiver in the house. It was a good $32.00 investment. So all I need now is the golashes and the shotgun right next to my bed and I'm all set!
