I'm really scared. This is the hottest forecast we've ever had since I've had chickens. They're saying 101-104 for three days straight, depending on which forecast you believe. We may freeze those large yogurt tubs and plop three or four of those in every one of the 3-5 gallon waterers so they are like mini-AC units, put fans on high, then put them in the coop for Saturday with doors and windows open so they can't run around.

I feel like cutting a huge hole in the back and covering with hardware cloth, then dealing with a cover for it when fall is upon us. Gypsy and Amanda have to go back to the main coop. It's cooler than where they are, and maybe the bantam broodies can go into that coop where they are with the babies. They aren't as susceptible to the heat stress and the babies will be fine there.

ETA: Both of Dusty's eggs are pipped. Carly's is not. The heating pad egg is chirping. Tom is afraid it is deformed in some way, with dropping it at Day 13, plus all the temp and humidity fluctuations there have been up until now.

I hear ya...I have been in a panic since they upper our forecast last night. I will be running my backside off today getting everything ready...buying bags of ice and fixing the new waterers.

Lord it is miserable outside...everyone is panting and everyone has shade, icewater and the best I can do. Tomorrow is gonna be relatively 8 degrees worse. 103 with a real feel of 108.

Dusty is back in with Suede after crushing one chick and ignoring the other. Now, I don't have to guess when she'll reject it since she already has. I gave her chick to Aimee. Carly's is pipped and making progress. Heating pad chick is pipped pretty well.

Heat isn't doing me any good. I'm headachey and weird feeling.

I'm glad I am healthy.

Really, I don't get headaches except on a very rare occasion, and the heat doesn't get me down too much. I do need to start drinking water. I drink way too much Coke Zero. I need to eat better, too. That's on my, "to do," list.

My chickens are all out to range, except for my rooster pen, the 3 pens of chicks, and my projects (still hatch from them). Hoping the shade and cool water are sufficient. I hate locking them up at night, with no breeze for them.

No rain in sight - better start the rain dance!

Sorry, too hot to dance.

Heating pad chick has hatched. DH thought it might be getting a bit weak so helped it chip away the remaining shell. It seems perfectly fine! Incubated on a heating pad from Day 13 to Day 20 hatch, how about that! And Carly's chick hatched, too, so we took it out and it's under Carly's wing with the other one.

There are 5 with Aimee and Carly, including the one Dusty rejected.

BTW, LH, Aimee's chick that Dusty wouldn't mother has furry legs! It's a pure D'Anver, too! A real throwback to the D'uccles they used to create the Mille Fleur color. Aimee herself has a few stubs, but this one could be a Cochin!

They are calling over 103 -107 the next few days i hate it . We need rain bad got 6" 3weeks ago. Rain dance sound good. Have to turn on the ac in the main coop ,ice in all the waters

WOW a heating pad. Did you wrap the pad around the eggs or lay it on top?
