It sounded like a word problem from algebra and I made a bad joke of it.

Sorry, got the discount on the hose kits wrong, had to find the receipt to double check, I got .40 cents less each not in total (was shorted .80 cents)

I got the 20% discount on the paint (one item 20% off) $20 down to $16

I paid full price for the two $2 hose repair kits $4 total

I went to exchange the two $2 hose repair kits and got $3.20 cents back (they had discounted my return by the 20% off ONE item against BOTH items I had returned or .40 cents each)

Remember I had used the 20% off on the paint, actually their computer used it against the highest price item.

The hose repair kits had never left the truck after I purchased them, no damage to packaging or opening of them.

Scumbags and thieves! What makes them think they can do the "sleigh of hand" when you return an item with NO discount! I smell a rat!

Hope they didn't count it against you for "restocking fee".

Just buy any item with a coupon from OSH on a separate transaction and you should be okay

I know of no store that would do that. I have a habit of buying more then I think I will need so I return a lot of stuff to home depot. What ever I payed plus the tax on the stuff I return is refunded. What state was this ? Is there a sales tax ? Did they refund the sales tax ?

This is a copy of their email from this week

Notice way at the bottom of the fine print about the coupon:

"In the event of a return, coupon savings may be deducted from your refund. "

That is what they use to take the savings back from anything else you purchase on the same receipt. Not just what the coupon was used against. Remember in my case, it was a 20% off ONE item, but the 20% was applied against any returned ITEMS.
