Sebastopol geese - selecting breeding stock, color genetics, and color improvement

We've had some rain the past couple of days ( = lots of muds ), so please excuse the messy birds!













I tried to get some close up shots of their wings......what do you think? Do they have any wing issues, or do they just have some random feathers poking out?

I have a White Tufted Roman goose, and she almost flew away...actually she did, she just came back. I mean she literally flew into the air and was several hundred ft. up. Not a fun thing to see! LOL After that, they got their wings clipped.

Actually, my smooth grey Sebbie girl hopped over the 3ft hog panel this morning, and was running around outside the yard. She got spooked by the horses who came running by their pen.

I know, it was crazy. Thankfully the other geese were calling to her, so she found her way back.

Here's the new kids...... the Saddlebacks are 2 while the "whites" are yearlings.... How did we do?

They look to be in good condition too, and wow after a bath the other night they look very nice.

A Lady about an hour away was having coyote problems and put an add on CL for a safe home for her babies... we got these 4 and a pair of Buff Dewlaps

The colored birds you got are actually pretty nice birds. I think the whites may be dilute males.

I hope not as they are supose to be the girls. We will see as their is no mating behavior yet.
