Sebastopol geese - selecting breeding stock, color genetics, and color improvement

Pics
That is a great analogy for head shape! I am going to tuck that away in the back of my mind!
Kim I call it the "Arabian Headset". Round domed head and chisled little beak.
It's my artist eye that goes for that look but I suppose its subjective since we don't all like the same thing.
Its alluded my breedings for the most part and those who have it aren't sharing with me.
Its been the illusive quest for me to get it stamped in there solid.
Kim, Lovely studmuffin!!!

And Studmuffin --

And him and his mom:

I'm beginning to like his head and neck, but in person, his body seems "square" to me. I realize genetically, he carries buff and would have a chance at a buff sb gander if I put him with his mom in 2013, but I just don't know. Maybe I should try to improve the overall type first. At least they already like each other!

So this is where everyone has been hiding!!! Not much activity over on the sebbie thread for a bit. I have some exciting news! I am hopefully picking up several colored sebbies this weekend including a few smoothies which is awesome! There is a blue saddleback gander in the bunch too and I have a white girl that is split to saddleback so hopefully they will be a nice pair for some spring saddleback babies! I can't wait to get pics to see what you guys think of them.

"Arabian headset"... That's cute.

Josie -- CONGRATS!!! Can't wait to see the pics of the new crew. I knew you'd been looking for some good smoothbreasted to add to your beauties :)

I am just smitten with the buff saddlebacks. Cannot get enough of them!.

Any idea what I would get with a lavender gander over a grey saddleback goose?

Well who am i to deny you your fix?? Your Alice had my heart from the get go.
Here is Buff girl #2. She's no grump...quite the ham. She left the others to go get on the pier and look over at them. SILLY GOOSE!

I hope to work toward curly buff saddlebacks next year....stay tuned!

For 2013 I have decided to pair up my two grays, a smooth breasted gander and a curly breasted goose. Do you all have any comments or recomendations?

Smooth gander:

Curly goose:

Poultry you should see 50/50 smooth/curly off spring from that paring. Love their dark coloring and the smooth has nice chaps and back feathering too.

Thank you Celtic, I was thinking if I breed them together in 2013 and get a really good curly gander out of them could I breed the gander back to the goose? (his mom)
