Sebastopol Geese Thread !!!!!!!!!! SHOW YOUR PICS !!!!!!!!!!

We run the Sebbies in trios, allowing us to control the genetics as much as possible. This also allows us to pair based on feathering, heads, color ect.
We are just adding the dewlaps this year and plan to run trios with the, as well. After much reading and talking it is what is most reccomended.
Both breeds can have fertility issues one because of feathering and the other because of size and lopes.
I know Metzers runs theirs in flocks, but you have less control of the quality of the off spring doing it that way.
The pink has gone away a lot from your first pictures to the new ones. I wouldn't worry about the coloring on the bills since they have gained so much orange.
I do reccomend buying a copy of the SOP though so you can refer to it for these two breeds of geese to help make breeding choices.
Ok thanks! where can I find a copy of the SOP? and thanks for all the info, but I think this next breeding year I will have to have flock breeding scence I dont have the money to buy all the required materials for all the different pairs/trios (coop, fencing etc.) also where did you get your dewlaps from? and how many dewlaps and sebbies do you have?

You buy the SOP from the APA. http://www.amerpoultryassn.com/APA_ShoppingMall3.htm

Ok after repeatedly trying to hatch Sebastopol and Toulouse eggs I finally gave in and ordered myself 4 colored Sebastopol goslings. Happy Mothers day to me from me! They will be here tommorrow. I cannot wait. I haven't been this excited in a long time. I'm thinking of calling in sick just so I don't have to wait til I get off tommorrow to see them. Would that be so wrong?? Lol! I will probably have a hundred questions. I hope ya'll are patient. Pictures as soon as I can. Thanks, Shannon

Congratulations!!! You will love them!!

Where will the goslings be while you are at work??

I stalk my shipped babies until they are safely in the hands of the new owner with a brooder all set up and waiting for them!

Oh, and I would absolutely call in sick !! Do it!!

Don't worry they will be in good hands. I always ship my eggs and or live poultry to my best bud who owns a feed store in town. They sell and handle lots and lots of poultry and waterfowl so they know what they are doing. They are going straight into a brooder all by themselves that she set up just for them. She is very excited. I am a terrible worrier so I make foolproof arrangements before shipping. I am very excited too. And believe me if I hadnt just missed 3 days to the flu I would definantely call in. But if I lose my job I won't be able to feed and care for the babies so I'd better behave. LOL!!!

I am so sorry. Let me rectify that violation so it won't go on my record. Here are the new baby Sebs. From woolfarm in Wisconsin. They are colored Sebs from a mixed colored flock, a fairly large one I think. I don't know if she is on BYC or not. Any help with colors would be appreciated. I think I have 3 saddlebacks and a solid but what colors they may be I have only guesses. Enjoy! I have been, lol! OOps it won't let me put them on here. It will let me put them on my profile so, if you want to see them go over there to look. Thanks!

Hey Shannon,

We have some from Pricilla also (so far I have 2 SB, a possible blue, buff and possible cream)

Very cute pictures! 3 total right? The one in the second picture with the black bill that has the pink tip I would guess to be a saddleback. From the dark color a grey saddleback. The one with the very dark solid bill could be a grey, The other (third picture blurry head) looks like it also has a dark bill with pink tip? Would most likely be a saddleback as well. I would guess two grey SB with the third being a grey. However you won't really know until they feather out since her flock does run together there is a chance for another color, but their looks right now say grey and grey SB.

If you want to share the pictures in the post you can copy the img code and paste it in where you type. I use photobucket to upload and then copy the img code to share pictures. Can't share them any other way from an iPad or iPhone.

Congrats on the babies, share more pictures when you can. Don't forget to get them in the yard to eat fresh grass and be in the sunshine as much as possible as soon as possible. Good for them to be allowed to explore (while protected and watched) and start having greens from a young age.
