Sebastopol Geese Thread !!!!!!!!!! SHOW YOUR PICS !!!!!!!!!!

Has anybody ever had a goose turn pink in the bill and feet during molt? She was perfectly normal before, now she's nearly rose colored. She's about 1/3 way into annual molt, her first one. Everybody else is normal orange.

I have read GF that there are some Sebastopol's who do have pink nose and feet. It is just in the background and can show up sometimes. Not sure if it changes back or not?

Its so strange! Its almost purple. She definitely was orange billed before- its the one in my profile picture. I will try to get an "after" pic today, but she looks like heck being mid-molt.

I've seen birds get very light colored pigment in skin when they do not have access to fresh grass or sunlight. (generally females when setting)

The only time I have seen a bird get purple colored in the bill is when they were not getting enough oxygen and the bird died.

Okay i have a question. I have a friend that just rescued 6 Sebastopol geese from a guy in Kansas. Said he didn't have enough money to take care of them anymore. Well I took a look at them and obviously he never had the money to take care of them. He said they are about a year old but I am going to guess they are around 6 months or extremely malnurished. Anyway they all have angel wing. Some worse than others. Is there anything you can do for them to help with it? I saw you can wrap them when they are young but I didn't know if it works on older birds. Also how do you tell males from females? Thank you!

I think you can wrap TWT ( I have never done it successfully) but not sure about angel wing. Are you SURE that is what it is? Because TWT is pretty common, as well as straight flights. Those birds should be mid-molt about now and probably look like total crap this time of year, even if they are well cared for. I know my females are still working on gaining back weight they lost while setting.

You can pay for DNA sexing on the birds, but personality can give you some good clues as well. Girls tend to hang out in the back of the group. boys will be in front and more inquisitive. There are always exceptions though.
