I don't have any hands on experience but just wanted to say some kind of vitamins especially any with a good dose of B vitamins in it should also be given daily in his water. rest and warm water therapy[ask vet about that} Warm water therapy really helps keep leg muscles active and strong during healing deep enough he can float and move his legs around They do this with horses too. And once healed and breeding season comes around make sure they have a pool for mating even with out leg problems geese do better if they can mate in water. Please keep us updated on how he is doing.
He is not doing terribly well. Despite being caged per vet's instructions (x-large dog crate) his leg has not improved at all. I think it may have actually gotten worse. He's off ibuprofen now after about 1.5 weeks on it, also per vet instructions. As for water therapy, I'm not sure what I have that he would be able to float in. Maybe a large storage bin? I'll look into it.
QueenMisha -- A really large kiddie pool with water all the way to the top will greatly improve the odds of successful mating even with a gimpy leg. Good luck!
I actually have a hole dug for an in-ground pond, about 8 feet wide by 4 feet deep, but resources are tight right now so I'm not sure when it will be finished. I'm trying to create a new turkey/guinea pen, put in 3-4 breeding pens for my Silkie project, fix the busted hose in the big pen, etc. If I'm lucky it will get done by spring but there's no guarantee... I have a kiddie pool as well, but it's really rather pitiful.
or did they just up and go?
