Sebastopol Geese Thread !!!!!!!!!! SHOW YOUR PICS !!!!!!!!!!

Cottage Rose, I just love your photos and your Sebbies...lovely! I also had a question on feathering. I have two 2012 hatched colored Sebbies that have very modest feathering. I was hoping they would have had more. I suppose time will tell, but it doesn't appear at they are genetically programmed for profuse fears.

Thank you all! The new snow is always a pretty back drop and looks so Christmasy doesn't it?

nonsuch you should have a pretty good idea by the time they're 5 - 6 months old. By then they will be poofy if they're going to be poofy with hopeful improvements to come.
But there's even hope for improvements with the smoothies, but they don't go from smooth to fully feathered.

Color wheel!

Very jealous that you have snow and we dont!

Thanks, Poultry09!
I just took the splash and a smooth saddleback to join a new flock yesterday. I am *almost* ready to get them all separated when the time comes. The chickens are some of my black Orpingtons.

I was going through old pics last night, trying to find the last good snowfall we had. Its been almost 2 years :( We have an awesome (scary!) sledding hill that we're dying to use again. This was my son and dog- both air born at the same time:

Love the pics, i am pretty sure my curly gander has twt, even though tried to feed correctly and every thing to prevent it. I am wondering if i should keep him, he is my baby and follows me while i work outside, my goose is smooth, will that help the offspring not have it, i don't want to breed bad traits into the babies? Any opinions? And can i expect goslings this year, she is 7 months old and he is about 3 weeks younger.

TWT cant not be prevented through diet. Its something that can pop up as late as the 2 year old molt in curly sebbies. It has to do with the twisting of the end joint from the curly feather gene.

it is thought that AW (Angel Wing) is a combo of genetic and feed related and MIGHT be avoided through diet.

post pictures of them both

Vicky great snow and sebbie pictures! We have not had snow yet but the temps are in the 20's at night lately.

To clarify misinformation posted:

Twisted wing tip does not involve the joint, it is the twisting of the tip (end) of the wing as indicated by the name. It is only seen in sebastopols and is believed to be caused by the genetic mutation of the feathers. Birds that have straighter flights, with less curl have a lower incidence of twisted wing tip. Yes, it can occur later in the bird's lifespan.

I have seen some birds that appear to have TWT, but when given a thorough examination, the feathers just stick away from the body and the wing is normally formed and tucked up and in.

Angel wing is the twisting of the first joint of the wing and the whole end of the wing will point away from the body.
