Sebastopol goose not feeling well

Thanks Pedalgirl, I'am with you on needles.......I have a gander that is down. If I hold him up and get him started he can walk, but once he falls he can't get back up and he's holding his wings like he doesn't have the strenght to hold them up. I've tried everything and nothing helps so thought I might try this. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I gave Ginger a tiny bit of Tylan on Sunday night. I called around looking for a vet on Monday. Monday evening she was nibbling on lettuce and banana. I gave her a little more tylan and am still looking for a vet to take her to. The three vets I called do not take "farm animals" They are into parrots, lizards etc.

My husband had some luck and found a vet that works out of a a feed store across town. I have an appointment on Thursday morning. This morning she ate some banana and started eating grass as soon as I put her out in the yard. This evening when I got home Ginger flapped her wing and ran up to me with Fred, they ate lettuce and went for a swim in the pond. I am going to give her 1 more dose of tylan tonight and take her to the vet Thursday.

I think she is on the mend, but am not going to count my chickens before they hatch so to speak. Thank you for all you help, I appreciate all your guidance and advice. Best wishes to you all!

Hi Chickenflicker,
The poor boy sounds like he is in bad shape. I don't have any idea how th help you with him, other than to see a vet if you can. I had a buff goose in similar shape 4 years ago and it turned out durring breeding the gander injured her back. Please let us know how he is doing.

Well I lost my big boy today. He was a Buff also. He was our first goose, well gander, he was about 6yrs old. I think he may have eaten some kind of metal object and it hurt him inside. We will really miss him, we still have 5, one being his son and another his daughter.....but he was our fav......

I am sorry to hear of your loss. Geese are such sweet birds each with their own special personalities. I am glad you have his kids; you still have a small part of him with you. My thoughts are with you and your extended goose family.

Sorry for the late post, work has really turned bad this week, we are now 4 people short with them out on medical leave, and I am spending my life working. Thank goodness my hubby will take care of my birds when I am tied up

Ginger is on the mend & feeling much better. She was back to normal before I took her to the vet, I took her just in case. The vet on Thursday did an x-ray and found nothing, said her lungs sounded good and did blood work. Lab work will be back next week. He said maybe she ate something that did not agree with her. So I hope that is the last episode of not feeling well, that was a very expensive visit.

I do have one complaint about the vet, he advised me to put Ginger and Fred down because they according to him are not a very good quality goose. I said NO thanks, and explained they were rescue geese and they are my pets, I don't show them, I just enjoy them. Whey they were little someone pinioned their wings so they do not extend all the way and they poke out at odd angles. He said this was painful for them and could be why she was sick. I think not, they both flap their wings and show no sign of being in pain. If that were the case Fred should have been sick also, he had both wings done by the looks of him. Ginger only had one done.

Some people, you are wonderful for rescuing Fred and Ginger, why does everything have to be perfect? I am so glad to hear Ginger is doing good again, and hopefully her first and last time. Geese are awesome aren't they.
