SFIcelandics,
do you vaccinate your sebrights for Mareks? I have had a terrible experience with both vaccinated and unvaccinated sebrights. We have one hen surviving and I'm hoping she's especially resistant. If she is resistant, would it be a good idea to find her a mate?
Thxs,
Deb

I do not VACCINATE ANY OF MY BIRDS FOR ANYTHING. I also DO NOT MEDICATE...

As far as my understanding on the Marek's is that the VACCINE only COVERS THE SYMPTOMS, and the birds will still shed the virus. So I learned from Dan - he reccomended not to vaccinate, and then just cull for anyone who show signs... I have yet to have any of my birds show signs of mareks... If your hen makes it thru the virus, and is healthy and lays, I wouldnt see why not to breed her? Resistance should be passed on to her chicks thru the eggs - any thoguhts from anyone else on this???

ALL of my birds(brahmas and sebrights) come right from Dan Powell of One Earth Farm - I picked them up there as I only live an hour from him... I am so happy with the birds!!!

At this time I only have 2 citron hens and 1 gold male(should be split to citron) that I could part with... Plus extra gold males(maybe a hen or 2).

I lost my lavendar male to a fox, so I only have 2 pullets left, so I am breeding them to get some splits and then I can breed back and get more lavendars, they are quite popular, and are the typiest of the new sebright colors. I will get pics this weekend if the weather cooperates.

Dan no longer raises any fowl, and I had picked up his last batches of birds, I have a total of 68 birs from him right now...

I knew that Dan no longer is dealing in the sebrights, very upsetting. Which is going to make it very difficult to get a hold of good stock in the other varieties. :(

Dan is no longer working with Birds at all. He sold the last of his birds a week or 2 ago. I was fortunate enough to get some of all of his colors!!!

heres my buffs that i got from the ohio nationals
they got killed they were alot buffer in color then the pic shows
my camera bleached them out especially the hen

This is my son's bird that won BV at our last show. There were 6 sebrights total. Some were the beautiful buff color.

Wow, that's sweety looking one. My sebright male actually looks more like a hen than a rooster, but isn't that the idea?
