Sebrights & polish not laying?

Got 20+ hens around june 10.
Whiting true blue & greens all laying as of thanksgiving
Buff orphingtons all starting to lay also. Each day a new bird starts.

The only ones not laying are 2 buff polish & 2 Sebrights. Their combs dont appear to be full like the others. Also 1 sicilian buttercup not laying.

I should add im in south tennessee & winter is not bad. I would say 50ish sunny would be cold. Cooler nights sometimes but warmer generally.

I read my guineas wont lay until spring im wondering if thats the same thing sebrights & polish will do? They are the only birds with no eggs yet so figured i would ask. Do you think these little sebrights are waiting for spring?

For the most part sebrights and Polish have been selected for 'pretty' and production can be variable. They will lay eventually, but never like your other birds.

We are only about a week past the shortest day of the year. As daylight increases, so will egg production within your flock. This means birds already laying, will likely lay more days out of the week, and those that have not yet started to lay, may start any day; it could be tomorrow, it could be in two months. As long as all your birds are healthy, eating, drinking, etc. I wouldn't worry too much.

If you are providing supplemental lighting however, it does change things a bit, but birds can certainly take their time to lay their first egg. I had one start at 11 months! This is not the norm, but yes, it can happen, and now she is one of my most consistent layers.

I agree that they should start laying once the days begin to get longer. But I also agree with @sourland I wouldn't expect the Sebrights and Polish to lay as much as the rest of your girls do

My polish took forever to lay eggs compared to my other mixed hen flock! It was about 11 months. I read not to expect much from polish hens but my girls lay every day. Sometimes I get 3 eggs. I’m not sure if one is laid at night but it’s strange. The eggs are small but the yolks are big. I have found that they will lay eggs in secret places sometimes. I found 6 eggs in a nest lol! They are at the bottom of the pecking order and do get pushed around. Good luck I hope your birds are laying. I also have a S. Buttercup and she was late too. I get a dark brown egg from her every day!
