Sebrights

My Sebright keeps going broody... And I'm very tempted to let her hatch a clutch of eggs... But I've never had any experience with letting a hen hatch eggs (I would have to purchase fertilized eggs as we don't have a rooster)... Does anyone have any experience with Sebrights as mother hens? Any advice?

I have a question, does it get very cold where you are at? I just lost my Sebright this week. It got to cold here and I didn't get her in soon enough. She was eight months and never had laid an egg. How old is your Sebright? Has she laid an egg yet. I hope you have better luck with yours. I should have housed mine separately and kept a heat lamp on. I will probably never have a Sebright again but would be more aware next time. It get's real cold here and I should have paid more attention.

Im so sorry for the loss of your sebright! :(

My Sebright is right at 8/9 months as well... She does lay... Occasionally :) ... She goes broody quite often... We're in central NC and she's done well with the weather thus far... When it gets really cold she does sleep tucked under our larger chickens... And sometimes if its cold during the day she will stay in the coop... She is more sensitive to the cold than the others we have she doesn't like her feet to be cold that's for sure! ... And tolerates the heat better than they do.
Again, I'm truly sorry for your loss

Dutchlion, Thanks for the kind words. I have to tell you a funny story about my Sebright. She was the smallest of all my chickens and my cat was afraid of her. It was so funny. He would meow when she came around. She would stare him down and I even saw her back him into a corner. I got such a kick out of that. I bet he misses her too. They got used to each other and would just have staredowns. funniest thing ever. I think she didn't like him on her turf and when he would try to go in the chicken pen she would stop him. He used to stalk the chickens but I think they amuse him now. He just sits and watches them.

Good Morning all! hope everyone has a wonderful wednesday!

My sebright is my only bantam, and is getting picked on by my standard size girlies. I am hoping to get her a couple of bantam buddies... and am looking for sebrights... however, i am having trouble finding sebrights close to her age.

Do you think that she would bond with any bantam breed? or is it really 'birds of a feather'?

I would like to know your thoughts/experiences!

thanks so much!
