**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

Well, my test hatch of poults just left for their new home, they are going to live with a homesteading family in Lake Tahoe. Lucky birds, although they are going to be invited to the holiday dinners.

His original thought was to breed them, but he left saying he would just come back next year and buy more.

I also sold a turkey hen this morning, down to 12 giant mouths to feed. They were excited, they already emailed me to say she laid an egg (I gave their daughter some quail eggs to put in their incubator also - nice family).

Got half a dozen eggs pipped. 2 Creme Legbars, 2 GL Brahmas, 1 Marans & the mystery egg. Sick rooster was crowing today. Eating well. Moved juveniles to larger pen outside. Their brooder was outside before, but they are getting big for the brooder & I will have to move the 2 week olds into that brooder soon since I have pipping eggs. Still have a light on them at night but not sure if they need it. They are 1 month old.

So... I just bought a LG still air incubator from TSC. So far the temperature is stable and I almost have the humidity right. I have had one plug in and the other one laying half way across the hole while I am testing. During incubation, should I leave both holes open the whole time? Or should I leave the plugs in for the first ten days and then remove them? I have read about people doing both so what do you guys think? Thanks!

I don't use the plugs, ever.

Have fun and welcome to the addiction! (Run now while you still have a chance.)

The way I figure, if you are going to turn on the incubator, it costs just as much in electricity to incubate 16 as it does 28 right?

Yeah, I'm excited about it. The hive's all done, I just need the hive stand. And the pesky part about the bees. My package was delayed. It was supposed to be here when I got back from Utah but instead it's not arriving until 31 May. I'm nervous they won't survive the winter due to getting such a late start (we can have frosts here in August) and having all new frames and foundation to draw out.

It is what it is.
Ohhhh Im a little jealous. We want bees, I LOVE honey lots. Im nervous to make the plunge though. Let us know how it goes with them.

Second Annual Cinco De Mayo Turkey Hatch a long Digest 4-27-2013

I am still trying to imagine SCGs BF removing the organs from a Banty Rooster they processed…..

Apparently we left mrheinz77 in the dust and he will never catch up! His straight jacket is impeding his functioning and yet he was able to candle! No tutors and 3 blood rings….

ThaiDye is hopelessly behind. The sick rooster is better

but the kitty is not better! They may have to set up a charitable fund for Kitty’s operation. Please let us know here.

Wolftracks has been working on her Marans pen and has made progress! She is waiting out the chicks to see if they hatch on their own.

Mahonri is keeping up because he reads the digest! Still are still in the hatch and he is waiting for Kathyinmo to send chicks. It is heating up in AZ, plants are being started and pullets are laying that first egg!

Due to a thermometer problem, dsqard may have cooked her chicks!

Wax Myrtle has a bad DH!

He pulled a fertile egg that was under a broody out and left it on the counter.

It was quickly stuck into the Duck Bator.

Later she realized that it is lockdown time for the egg!

SCG showed us a picture of some broody cages she uses.

Wolftracks was smart to leave the eggs alone and some have hatched!

She does have Hens hiding nests around her place—and some especially crafty Games…

Mahonri says he is chicken/bat crap crazy…
lau.gif
He is incubating extra eggs for a patient and even took a road trip to get Aloha hatching eggs.

Gryeyes says she is keeping company with Mahonri and has a small house flock of chickens….

Yinepu is back! Three posts about giving and turning eggs! Dizzy I tell you I am dizzy now….

SCG is clever—clever to get the BF to make chicken things for her….the current project is a bee hive but the bees are arriving late…

SilkieSensation has 100 eggs just sitting; waiting for a new home….

Durr has dialed in that new bator and has asked for an egg bomb….

Debs Flock has sold the test hatch poults and a Hen turkey. The feed bill is getting smaller!

ThaiDye has CL, GL Brahamas, Marans and a mystery egg hatching!

Chickenpooplady bought an LG Still air and has joined the madness! Toss the plugs!
