**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

Soooooooooo, hmmm....it's coming up soon, I better get on trying to find some more turkey eggs. Have 4 cooking right now.

Otherwise, I'll participate with the chix. :p

I am now officially in for this Hatchathon! No more waffling about it or other folks pulling me in... I've arranged for some turkey eggs. I might also throw in some of my own questionable turkey eggs (which are not fertile so far...)

I think Melissa MW is too fast for Sarge to catch. He is, however, still stomping on Edith and Edna's backs a couple of times a day.

Speaking of Melissa, here she is posing for the centerfold in next month's issue of PlayJake.

Linda you crack me up. You need to speak to the photographer though. Let "them" know that a more professional shot is needed for such a prestigious magazine as PlayJake. The background "drape" should be of dark color so as to better see Melissa's beautiful features. White background + white bird = hard to see features.

Wow, Melissa is stunning while sunning!!

Additional photo hint......too much sunlight blows-out features.
But not bad for an iPhone camera.

<*sigh*>

I guess I really ought to set up the Olympus camera I bought myself for Christmas. The display is currently in some Asian language and I have to connect it to the computer to change it, apparently.

So I have a few questions. I recently learned that most Turkeys lay a decent number eggs. How many eggs a year do Royal Palm, Red Bourbon(sp?) and Blue Slate lay? I have 4 hens choice recently RP and Blue Slate with possibly RPxGolden Naragansett in the incubator now, 5 RPs going in the incubator tonight and in another month or so I will get 4 BRs. I have never hatched Turkeys before. I know they take 28 days and someone said they put them into lockdown 4 days before hatch. Can I hatch them with Chickens? I know lockdown means don't open the incubator but what if I have to take out the chicks before the Turkeys hatch? Does the humidity have to be higher than it does with chickens? I am using a still air incubator as a hatcher and it has been pretty tough to get the humidity up it is staying at around 50% and I have a but load of water in there any suggestions?

Ok I am sure I have more questions but can't think of any more right now.

So far I've had my two BR hens since 05.05.2012 and I've gotten 1 egg...

I put mine into lockdown 3 days before.

It is highly recommended to hatch chickens with them. The chickens act as "tutors" to teach the (dumb) turkeys how to eat and drink and not die. I have tried to time my staggered hatches so they first batch hatches before lockdown of the second batch. Otherwise, you're going to have to go in there anyway and clean up the egg shells and poop and fuzz... just make sure your eggs aren't pipped and that your humidity recovers quickly, if possible.

I hatched the same humidity as I always do for chickens, ducks and turkeys.

You going to join us?
