**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

YEAH!!!!!!!    16 tukey eggs?  You are sure to have something develop.  They are just like chicken eggs, only a week longer.

I hope so! I have a young Tom already, so the plan is to keep a hen or two from this hatch to breed with him and butcher the rest. Then next year, I can raise my own!! If I get all 16 to hatch, I'll be swimming in turkeys... :p

I hope he's OK and gets to stay home with you!

he will for now.. but when the next deployment rolls around I'm pretty sure they will be sending him where ever it happens to be.

Praying for his continued recovery. Family is more important than BYC. Go spend some time with your man

How exciting! Go enjoy him and tell him thank you!

So, I am about to set my first eggs...should I put them in a carton, or lay them flat?

I did... thanks

if the eggs were shipped .. pointy end down in cartons (don't turn for 24 to 48 hours depending on air cell condition)

if they were from your birds then you can lay them down.. most turkey poults have an easier time at hatch if the eggs are on their sides

Ok Guys! I plan on starting a contest either Monday evening or Tuesday evening. Where should I run it? Here or in a thread under the contest fourm? I'd believe it'd get a bit hectic in here. Lol. But the price will be a 6 pack of Chocolate/Mauve Barred Rock eggs from Chookschick. :D and if anyone else would like to donate prizes for the 2nd and 3rd place winners please PM me. But yea any idea's on where to run it? ( Its my first time hosting a contest! )

I'd start a new thread to keep things more organized. I'd also be willing to donate prizes, just have to figure out what. :)

Is there an official count on eggs set? If nobody's keeping track of that yet I'd be more than happy to do it. Then we could have contests for "guess how many set/hatch" or "best/worst hatch rate" etc if people wanted to do those.

Quote: So nice that you have awesome items to offer for prizes!!

About himidity-- I dry hatch and have less problem with drowning chicks. I've been running at 19% which is low even for me, but have been getting reasonable hatch rates. I usually prefer 20-30% range = humidity jumps around during the first 18 days depending on the local weather and humdity.

Id Need turkey eggs BUT i also Need 7 poults for my 4 h kids .
so Get Hatching people LOL ,

Have fun and Good luck all i just got marans eggs and wellsummer eggs from Zanna and They are NICE .

So much empty Space though in my Leahy ....................... I need more chickens or eggs Thinking

Empty space????? My Bourbon Reds are laying well-- 5 eggs a day; my sweetgras, well they are slacking = 1 egg a day or every other. WTH is up with that!

See you got marans, if they are shipped, do you know the watermelon trick? THough I am starting to wonder if the heavily painted eggs would benifit from a little filing , too.

I have over 2 dozen of my own to set but I didn't get Arielle's package on Saturday as I had hoped. With luck they will come today and I can set this evening.

I've been so busy the past two days! I forgot to say I could only set two of the 3 duck eggs. My hen always manages to break at least one eggs and I was hoping she wouldn't do it this time. The eggs are so dirty I had to candle them to find the crack. My duck is evil.
