**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

SCORE!! Incubator space! I'm still waiting for the peas to start laying so I can get those going. I don't have a house for them this year because they quit using it, so I gave it to the turkeys. Without it, though, they haven't a home base for laying and since the turkeys are laying in their house I'm not sure where the peas will lay...and I can't follow them around all spring. There are a million places they could hide their eggs. This could be very difficult. If anyone is interested in joining in late, I could send eggs next week...I'm getting 4-6 a day from my turkeys. Yesterday I got a cute little one the size of a chicken egg!
I would love some turkey eggs pretty please

Yummy-- fresh garlic?

You'd better believe it, missy. Must have planted 100 cloves last fall.

I just bought 3 Khaki ducklings, one for each of my children. My youngest is 4 and he named it Goose, but when I asked him today it was Duck. Can you tell what game they have been playing at school? Duck, duck......goose!

Awww that's cute. Post a picture of them, will ya?

Had a goose when I was a kid... it was named DuckDuck.

There's a story as to why we planted so much garlic. We're not afraid of vampires...

I bought 3 types from Seed Savers Exchange: Elephant, German White and Old Homestead.

Then I got a bunch of emails from SSE saying that they were out of stock on them and wouldn't be fulfilling my order.

So I got in a quick order with Burpee for Transylvania, German Red and Purple Glazer.

Then ALL of the garlic I ordered from SSE and Burpee arrived in the mail.

The ducks ate a good portion of the garlic I planted last fall. I think they were trying to pre-season themselves for the pot. Not sure if it's going to resprout or not... it hasn't been warm/sunny here - the only garlic that's doing well is in the hoop house. Daffodils are just starting to poke up.

It was supposed to snow here last night... so glad it didn't. Snow's possible Friday, too. Come on, spring.

I just got my eggs set at 5:30. I was running a bit behind. I needed to move two trays out to the hatchers to make room.

I know we don't need proof of set, or anything like that..................I just couldn't believe that I set 54 turkey eggs!

That's 54 turkeys, 6 call ducks, 1 araucana, 5 serema and for a friend, 7 OE & 14 empordanesa.

The turkey eggs are mostly various stages of clean to semi-filthy. The worst ones marked with an 'x' are my first experiment with washing eggs and treating them with oxine. My turkeys try their best to lay directly into mud or turkey droppings.
Looks lovely, dirt and all!

And how can such a "lovely" bird lay such a truly beautiful egg.

One of the washed eggs.

I've got 3 eggs developing of 4 set previously (2 blue slate, 2 royal palm, not sure which the quitter was, they eggs are unmarked) from shipped eggs.

Just set eggs from TheBirdGuy - 7 B (Black Spanish), 1 labeled CT, I think...not sure what that one is.

:)

It's my first try at turkeys, can't wait!
You will do fine-- just like chickens. I wonder what the CT is?

Quote: We need rain here too. Glad you have sprinkles ! Send it my way. . . . .
FYI a lot of winners being announced tonight to finish up the easter hatch!
As I rmember last years, that thread ran for several months after the hatch date!
Ok Guys! I plan on starting a contest either Monday evening or Tuesday evening. Where should I run it? Here or in a thread under the contest fourm? I'd believe it'd get a bit hectic in here. Lol. But the price will be a 6 pack of Chocolate/Mauve Barred Rock eggs from Chookschick.

and if anyone else would like to donate prizes for the 2nd and 3rd place winners please PM me. But yea any idea's on where to run it? ( Its my first time hosting a contest! )
I like seeing all the pics here in the main forum--just my opinion. Jumping around to other threads is very time consuming because I have dial up. Besides it is fun to see ALL the entries, not just the top picks. But I"m flexible with what ever you decide.
I did get my eggs! I set 16 in the bator this afternoon!! Yay! My first turkey eggs!
YEAH!!!!!!! 16 tukey eggs? You are sure to have something develop. They are just like chicken eggs, only a week longer.
