**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

I've been so busy the past two days! I forgot to say I could only set two of the 3 duck eggs. My hen always manages to break at least one eggs and I was hoping she wouldn't do it this time. The eggs are so dirty I had to candle them to find the crack. My duck is evil.

YAY how are you feeling Raz?

guys.. if I am a bit AWOL for the next few days it's because my husband is home from Afghanistan!
love.gif

He was wounded in early March.. so they finally sent him home... now I have to catch up on spoiling him rotten

I do want to thank y'all for keeping me company and helping to keep me busy .. and i know I didn't tell most of you about it.. but it's one of those things where we just aren't allowed to say much...
so thanks again!
Oh, Yinepu, I had no idea! I am so happy he is able to come home to you. Is he going to have any long term effects from his injuries? PLEASE tell him "thank you" for his sacrifices and service! Words can't do justice to the appreciation I have for y'all doing that for me, my family, and everyone else in the US (whether they appreciate it or not.) I also humbly appreciate your willingness and sacrifices, as well. It is often forgotten that the families of servicemen also 'give till it hurts' so that we can be safe and comfortable at home with our families. The separation is just as hard on you and your soldier's other loved-ones as it is on him. Let me know if there is anything you could use some help with....anything at all.
I had a couple cute little african goslings hatch over the weekend. I love goslings, they are the sweetest things!
Here's my gander trying to steal them away from me, he thinks they are the sweetest little things too, lol.

I had no idea that the ganders would do that! So cute! Will the goslings adopt the gander right back? I think I need a goose or two.......

Geez, I'm slow . . . . .

No, Arielle, not slow, it's just that great minds think alike! I'm actually just glad that I am not the only one whose mind works like that!
I just got my eggs set at 5:30. I was running a bit behind. I needed to move two trays out to the hatchers to make room.

I know we don't need proof of set, or anything like that..................I just couldn't believe that I set 54 turkey eggs!

That's 54 turkeys, 6 call ducks, 1 araucana, 5 serema and for a friend, 7 OE & 14 empordanesa.

The turkey eggs are mostly various stages of clean to semi-filthy. The worst ones marked with an 'x' are my first experiment with washing eggs and treating them with oxine. My turkeys try their best to lay directly into mud or turkey droppings.

Are any of those Silver Campines? <closely examining the eggs pictured>

So far, so good, on my batch, but my Hovabator is acting squirrelly and scaring me a bit. I am having trouble with it staying on temp. It is losing a bit of heat every day and I have to keep adjusting the control to warmer. It has the "7" shaped control knob on top and I have turned it a complete 180* in the past day and a half. Has anyone else had that problem? I was wondering if it is that the wafer has gotten loose or if it is going bad. I got up in the middle of the night to check it because I was worried that it would spike after I turned it up ... again ... just a bit before bedtime last night. I am so ready for a bigger, better, bator. I am giving some thought to making a cabinet bator.

It is nice to be joining in again in the Cinco de Mayo hatch again as last year was fun. When I set my eggs I didn't even realize it was so close to the hatch but am so glad that it is and I get to join. On Friday I set 41 dozen eggs that I collect on a long road trip that was 200 miles. Most are chicken eggs that will hatch a week before the hatch date of the 5th, but I did get the turkey eggs and guinea eggs that will hatch just a few days before. I really hope the turkey eggs hatch. Last year the eggs I got ended up not being fertile, but these are from a different person so i am hoping all goes well. I may also go pick up some more goose eggs today, but it depends on my schedule. I pretty much have all the turkeys pre-sold already, I have someone that wants 4-8 of them, just hope they hatch well. And today is my birthday.

I am going to be setting late as I am getting eggs shipped that probably will get here Monday. You know what this means right? It means while you are all getting fuzzy butts, I am going to be going crazy over my bator wondering why they aren't pipping, zipping and hatching. Better get going on my straight jacket lol
I hear you!! I'm debating on setting tonight or tomorrow night. Bourbons are increasing their daily egg numbers !! YEAHHHHHH! I looked at your avatar the other day and suddenly, bing, I could see a abird thru the wire. FOr the last year I have been seeing a close up of a giraffe!!

Too cute! Let me know if I have anything on my page you'd like to swap for. I have over 30 duck eggs sitting here from the past 5 days in desperate need of rehoming.

There's a story as to why we planted so much garlic. We're not afraid of vampires...

I bought 3 types from Seed Savers Exchange: Elephant, German White and Old Homestead.

Then I got a bunch of emails from SSE saying that they were out of stock on them and wouldn't be fulfilling my order.

So I got in a quick order with Burpee for Transylvania, German Red and Purple Glazer.

Then ALL of the garlic I ordered from SSE and Burpee arrived in the mail.

The ducks ate a good portion of the garlic I planted last fall. I think they were trying to pre-season themselves for the pot. Not sure if it's going to resprout or not... it hasn't been warm/sunny here - the only garlic that's doing well is in the hoop house. Daffodils are just starting to poke up.

It was supposed to snow here last night... so glad it didn't. Snow's possible Friday, too. Come on, spring.
Are you willing to sell some of the Purple and Transelvania or Maybe trade for something i have thats rare like charley chapman Tomatoes Very old tomatoe Heirloom and organic
or name it Ive been looking everytime i go after new Garlic its gone

I would love to get some of your duck eggs!
Check my sale ad or my swap page. I'll either sell or swap ya some. Getting about 10 duck eggs per day.

Ok Guys! I plan on starting a contest either Monday evening or Tuesday evening. Where should I run it? Here or in a thread under the contest fourm? I'd believe it'd get a bit hectic in here. Lol. But the price will be a 6 pack of Chocolate/Mauve Barred Rock eggs from Chookschick.
big_smile.png
