**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

Mine go on their sides & get turned by hand. Main reasons: easier to monitor for stinky/leaky eggs & early pips & MANY more eggs will fit this way

Ah, kinda wish I could hand turn, but we are frequently away up to 18 houra on any given weekend day. So, am kinda stuck with a turner. :-/

This is a casual hatchathon, and we're to set whenever we can, and today is the day for birds that will hatch in 28 days, give or take.

On your marks, SET!!!

I couldn't wait. I set chicken eggs today. They (hopefully) should hatch before Cinco De Mayo, but if it it doesn't matter, I'll play along.

Also, I suck at poetry, but if it's MANDATORY, then

There once was a chook from Nantucket
Who liked to lay eggs in a bucket
Then one day she found
A feather aground
So then she decided to pluck it.

See...told y'all I suck

Monograms, bells, whistles, fringe, whatever you desire. How about a big Alabama "A" on the chest?

At least I'm not trying to candle already....

You should candle... You don't want to miss something.

And rumor has it someone is getting a SJ with epaulettes.

I set 6 turkey eggs (procured from the"NotSoOld"birdguy) and they all had a big N on them, so y'all figure out what I set. I cannot yet spell the breed name without looking it up.

In a week, I shall either set some of my own flock eggs or something else. Depends entirely on what I can arrange. Looking for LF Cochin, first.

y'all reminded me that I need to get more Ancona eggs! I gotta add to the bloodlines after all... yeah... that sounds like a good excuse to me!

I have a few of those plastic water barrels (kind of like a half wooden barrel in size).. the sides are straight up and down and they are almost three feet deep (not buried into the ground..just sitting on top). I have water lilies in them... so the ducks are SUPPOSED to stay out.. right?

wrong... I have three (mallard and cayuga) that have figured out how to leap up into the barrels.. then manage to get out once they are done churning up the water and making a royal mess of my lilies. The other ducks and geese are too fat and lazy to even attempt the feat...

Needless to say the lilies have been relocated to where they do not have to suffer the wrath of the three terrorists!

No one told them to stay out--- not that they would have listened anyways!!

Quote: I don't use a turner, just one more expense. And I can fit more eggs in if I lean them fat side up against each other.

( The benefit of a cooler bator is I can stack ! LOL)

Next weekend the chicken eggs in my bator will hatch. Hatching for a friend, who also bought me some speckled sussex to "pay" for my hatching.

Got 7 turkey eggs set today... like a minute ago. Is it too soon to candle?

I can also neither confirm nor deny setting duck eggs under my banty hen today. She is such a good momma.

Never too soon to candle!!
