**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

I set mine first thing this morning. Now to sit back and wait....

I'm with Yinepu that if the incubator had not been at 108 for very long, they might still be okay. The thermometer is reading the air temp, not the core temp of the eggs and it takes them longer to reach that temp. If you have other eggs to set, you might want to start over but if these were the only option, I would leave them in a week and then candle.

My ducks(calls) have the same kinda pond. they learned how to slide themselves over the edge, even the female scouvy has learned how to swim up to edge real fast and the just half fly, half slide out of it. maybe your ducks will be able to figure out how to do it too

I don't know how old your duckies are, but I suspect they'll be able to get out fine at some point. I don't have a ramp into my stock tank, just a ramp to the edge like the wooden bit at the top of the photo/video. (The stock tank is on a lower terrace in my yard and the wooden "bridge" goes from the edge of the terrace above to the stock tank. The ducks and geese walk into the tank, but launch themselves out of it all the time.

However, I also have a "wildlife escape ramp" which I built from a rectangle of expanded metal. One corner is bent to hook over the side of the tank and the opposite corner is bent the other direction to rest on the bottom of the tank. The two other corners are bent back to block off the area underneath the escape ramp, so submarine swimmers don't get stuck behind it.

Expanded metal is like that grate stuff, like it was pulled. Smooth edges to the grate holes so webbed feet aren't hurt, but can get a grip or hold with toenails if necessary. When a momma ducks took her babies to swim, they used the escape grate to get out until they were a bit older, at which time they just jumped out.
I cant quite picture this in my head, if your out and about with cell can you grab an pic maybe?

I set my eggs last night because I'm working today. Well my bator had been running from the easter hatch still (waiting on a couple of late eggs that never did hatch) so the temp was fine and has held really steady for weeks. I put in my 30 eggs at about 9:00pm. I checked on them before I went to bed at about midnight and the temp was reading 99. So I wake up at about 6:30 and the whole house is hot as heck. I check on the bator and it's reading 108! I cooled everything down pretty quickly and it's been reading steady at 98 for a while now. I'm pretty sure I ruined everything :(
Oh no. I hope they are ok.

I also set mine last night, after midnight.
I set mine before bed last night, I didn't want them sitting too long

I am a worry wort! What day do we add tudors? is that the 15th?
I think you could still put a cinderblock in there to help them out.

They will figure it out, though. My fat pekins "fly" out of their stock tank.
the way this pond is fabricated the cinderblock would be in the center and I don't think it would help them its about 2 foot deep and all sides taper in on a pretty good slope.

I've had chicks survive spikes to 116F, 120F however cooked them. I would leave them & see what happens.

YES, CHICKENS WILL DROWN THEMSELVES if given too much water & no way to get out if they fall in.

Set mine at about 9 this am! :D Bator is almost back up to temp, too!

Of y'all that have hatched ducks and use a turner, do you prefer to hatch flat or in cartons? Why? First time duck Hatcher wants to know. :)

I need suggestions!
Ancona DUCKS had an upgraded pond today! took them until 7 pm to not be afraid of it and head in!

To expand on Linda's idea. How about the grid thing they use to put in a paint bucket to roll the excess off a paint roller. It's built like an A-frame with hooks on one side to grip the edge of the bucket. The other side is a sheet of metal grid to run the roller. Your pond isn't too deep and it would give them a ramp.

It's $3.47 at HD.

Mine go on their sides & get turned by hand. Main reasons: easier to monitor for stinky/leaky eggs & early pips & MANY more eggs will fit this way

I had several Brinseas that did that.. would shoot up to 120 or better (a few kept rising)..
they have since relocated to the local landfill...

I wish Cuppy knew for certain how long the incubator was at 108... but I have to wonder if the eggs COULD be ok since the incubator is holding steady now.. i would think residual heat in the eggs would have given a high reading (assuming they had reached an internal temp of 104 or better) as soon as they closed it back up again.

edited to add:
though Cuppy.. you CAN get an idea if you're willing to crack open one of the new eggs and check the albumen and condition of the yolk... see if it has whitened or degraded at all. I'm not sure how long the egg would have to be at 108 to show visible damage.. but it's worth a peek... especially if you're going to toss them anyway)

I'll go ahead and open one up tonight to look at it. If it looks suspect I might check more. I suppose if its all a bust i can try again.

Next weekend the chicken eggs in my bator will hatch. Hatching for a friend, who also bought me some speckled sussex to "pay" for my hatching.

Got 7 turkey eggs set today... like a minute ago. Is it too soon to candle?

I can also neither confirm nor deny setting duck eggs under my banty hen today. She is such a good momma.

Seeking advice for staggered hatch. I ordered eggs in mid-March to come the 1st week of April after my hatch was done. Then on Mar 26, my neighbor gave me eggs from his chicken (Flarry Eye Grey) that lived with mine for a while. They were fertile (I'm guessing 3-5 days along at this point), so I put them in a home made incubator until my hatch was done. Then they were moved to the Brinsea after it was cleaned.
In the meantime, my shipped eggs came on April 3 & I just set them in a carton to let them settle. I decided I was going to put them in the ECO this morning & candle the FEG's at the same time. The FEGs look full...like lock down full. My homemade incubator is unreliable. I almost feel I should remove the shipped eggs and wait a bit, but they have been in there an hour already. I was thinking maybe just leave everything in there but stop turning for a few days? That way if the shipped eggs still need to settle & the FEGs are almost ready...? Or borrow another incubator & calibrate it so I can move the FEGs out?
There are so many experts on this board. Please help. I don't want to mess this up.
