**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

One of my Flarry Eye Grey eggs pipped! They are still in the Brinsea with the eggs I set last Sun. I never got the homemade bator stable enough to trust it. Now I'm gonna stop rotation until they hatch. I was only rotating 3 times a day (down from 5 when I saw how far along the FEG eggs were). Hope to see some serious unzipping by morning. :)

Well I had lots to say, but I forgot when SCG said she was going to candle. Now I want to candle something. So just going to say.....

Hi.

SCG I wish I knew you were in the market for Dark Cornish, I have some that just started laying, they are hatchery stock but I have a couple hens with the pearl eyes. They are really hard to come by from reputable breeders as they normal cull the ones they don't like. If you have issues with yours send me a pm and I'll polish egg bomb ya... You pay the shipping. It will be a few weeks b4 I get the breeding pens up though, right now it's like somebody mentioned about taking turns on the hens around here. Here's a pic of the pearl eyes in the middle right. Her lacing is not the best but I was gonna work on that.

I didn't even know I was looking for dark cornish! And I should know better... my last set of ebay eggs were almost a disaster, but I had had a bad day at work, on top of 3 hours of sleep and they said buy meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Thanks for the offer... very kind. We'll see what hatches, or doesn't. I could totally use a good egg bomb right now.

I don't know what scg sees when she candles right now. I cant see a thing.

I don't see a thing, either. I thought I might be hallucinating a blood vessel in one egg last night, though. I'll know more tonight.

STOP candleing were watching you

Dang looks like one of yinepu's emu's

Thank you all, I don't have anyway to the heat the room it was in, but the rock Idea got me think, I wrapped the bator in blanket stuck it in the bathroom, since this part of the house stays warmer than the rest, and put to little hand pocket warm things in their, they last for up to four hours. and I have two more I can put in later. Bator has been off for four hours and with the two little hand warmers the temp is hovering around 93 degrees.

Cold is much better than hot. Your eggs will be fine. I've had broodies outside in the dead of Maine winter who have gotten off their nests in the morning to poop and got back in the wrong nest. By the time I got home to correct it the eggs were insanely cold (luckily not frozen/cracked). I put them back under momma. They all hatched.

:O do you breed FEG? I love AGF!! I have about 80 head consisting of multiples of lines though the most I'm proud of are my White Pumpkin Hulsey's and my Miner Blues. :) I have a couple of grey lines like joe goode and Law grey's. Beautiful birds. We have one half and half bird that looks amazing, he's sid taylor and law crossed he ooks like he's on fire. ( Sorry the game bug hit me) :X

This morning I remembered that I had some eggs that might be hatching around this time. I didn't mark the date I set them but when I candled them this past weekend they looked like they where getting close. So checked on them this morning and they where starting to pip. So should have a bunch of Blacks sex link chicks soon. I also candled the turkey eggs (I set mine last Friday). With all the speckles they are hard to see into, but I did see some definite veining in some of them. Yay!

So I have a Serama hen who has gone broody, but I don't have any chicken eggs I need incubated right now. I have the turkey eggs I set on Sunday, and I'm considering giving her 2-3 to hatch for me. Since they've been going 5 days already, she wouldn't have to sit much longer than the 3 weeks it would take to hatch chicken eggs. Has anyone ever had a Serama raise poults? Do you think it would work out okay?

I don't, but want to. My neighbor got about 7 birds that were running around my pen. I brought one inside cuz she is so friendly. I asked him if I could have her (or buy her) & he said she was too expensive. He said she cost $700 ( My neighbor is full of it...just saying). Maybe he spent that for all 7 hens, but I KNOW if I spent that much on a bird, there is NO WAY they are free ranging!! He saw how much I loved her, tho, and let me keep her in my pen for a while. Then he took her out cuz he wanted to breed her. He gave me back her first clutch because he didn't want my rooster's bloodline. Problem was I had chicks close to hatch when he did & the eggs were fertile, so I kept them warm in a homemade bator. When the Brinsea was empty & clean, they got moved there, but then my shipped eggs came. I let them sit for several days, but not wanting to take a chance on either, I put them in last Sunday & reduced the number of times I turned per day.. I really hope this staggered hatch works out!

I love the Pumpkin Hulseys! I saw one that was sooo beautiful on craigslist. He was white with pumpkin hackles & tail! I wanted that bird, but no money at the time (& wary of CL birds anyway). I would love to see pix of your birds. My neighbor has 80 acres & rents space out for people to raise chooks. I'd have to say about 90% are game fowl. I'm still learning about all the breeds. I know he has Sweaters, Hulseys, Kelsos, Hatch, & Ganoi (Shamo?). God only knows what else. In addition, he has Guinea fowl, Peafowl, Muscovy ducks, Geese, & had a couple golden pheasant running around for a while (tho I haven't seen them lately). He really wants to get into turkeys now. I thought the Bourbon Reds or Blue Slates might be good to start with (leaning toward BRs).

Going to be picking up some eggs from another BYCer that are Leghorn/Ameraucana Rooster over Austra-white hens. Should be a fun/productive mix. I am hoping to have enough chicks to select both for the splash or black feathering AND pea combs, we'll see.
