Second time around - Ameraucana eggs !

LOL - I have a chick...this is so funny to me...Congrats to all with chickies!! My goodness I had no idea how fun this was!

So I am going to narrate this story...it will be totally visual...haha.

So this morning I woke up and got all ready to go out of town, I just got 2 dozen eggs from Bobbi Porto

- I was so stoked. I was taking them out of town to a lady with a REAL incubator, haha.

Ten minutes before I was supposed to leave I went to check on everyone...and low and behold, my first pip! YAY!

I left, I was so worried...

But I didn't come home empty handed...I brought home this lovely white silkie roo - we named him "Marshmallow".

When I got home...I had a chicken! Yay...I have no idea what it is...I will have to ask the guy that gave me the eggs...I think a leghorn baby...

Then, I looked and 2 more are ready to come out...one is beating the crap out of the egg and screaming "let me out" from the inside...

So here's my story....I can't wait until this little guy has some friends!

Your baby is beautiful!!! How many more did you get so far? I am still waiting....waiting....waiting.....waiting.....hmmmm, the anticipation is turning to disappointment. I think I'll let the eggs stay in the incubator until day 25, which is Tuesday.

I had 2 more come and the last two were no good...we cracked them open and there were fully developed babies in there dead

I had to "deliver" the third...it was being lazy, but all are well and healthy. I am crossing my fingers for you - I hope you have a full bator full of chirpers soon!!

I'm wondering if Ameraucanas are slower than other breeds to hatch. . Anybody?
I had 4 eggs that were set under a broody 4/17/10; all looked that same when candling at 14 and 16 days - 3 GCMs and one Ameraucana egg. The 3 GCMs hatched this morning - nothing yet from the Ameraucana.

I just hatched 3 at exactly 21 days. And they are pure Americaunas. They are adorable.

Congrats from me too! I'm jealous.
I read last night in "Raising Chickens" by Damerow that a hatch should be complete 24 hrs after the first pip. So I hoped to find the last chick hatched out this morning, but instead I found the hen off the nest with her 3 chicks and the last egg - the lone Ameraucana egg that made it this far of the 5 I started with - cold in the nest. I brought it inside and put it in my incubator - will give it a chance to hatch, but it's clear the hen gave up on it. (She must have read Damerow's book.)

I imagine that the chilling for a few hours wasn't good for the chick in the egg if it is still alive, but I have heard of others having saved some from abandoned eggs.

I've been looking for my camera for 3 days. When I find it, then I have to figure out how to put pictures on this site.

It is easy to put pictures on - here is how I do it. I first resize my pictures so they are not too big. Then I go to photo bucket and upload. If you hit share there is a link that says image code it starts with

Well I guess everybody is finished with this lot of eggs. I just finished an egg autopsy and found 3 almost hatchlings and 2 that quit early. The 3 babies were beautiful - one with blue legs. I am very sad about it but I learned alot from doing the autopsy. I know that the two hygrometers that I was using are faulty. It might be better to just fill the entire plastic liner with water from the get go and keep it filled because 2 of my hatchlings were (I believe) shrink wrapped.

How else did everybody else do?
