This is our second time with a broody chicken. Last time our hen, Daisy, hatched 3 babies, one of which was the poor little chick that I tried to save for months. It had a mysterious, horrible foot problem, that I could never heal. I tried EVERYTHING.
Same hen started sitting in random places, getting up to look under herself and pulling out a lot of chest feathers. Yep! She's broody! We put her in the next box and put 8 marked eggs under her and she is sitting like a champ! We go out this afternoon only to find ANOTHER hen has decided to also go broody in the box next to Daisys.
Will they parent together when the chicks hatch? Is there anything special we should do?
And as a side note, our rooster Scooby, has hurt himself. He is limping terribly. Poor guy. He was fine last night and today this. We caught him and looked him over. No injury or swelling that we can see. No bumble foot or anything weird. We're thinking he jumped down from his roost and landed wrong.
Anyway, just wanted to touch bases and check in. Happy hatching!
