Secret hiding place (picture heavy)

I have been following too. I am sorry to hear you had to toss so many.

You have provided us with some good insight: my first broody started up Sunday night, trying to hatch golfballs. After following your story, I decided to give her a few eggs, and candle at day 10. I only gave her white eggs. If they are not developing, I have eggs in the bator I can try to slip under her once they hatch.

You girl certainly gets an E for Effort! Would you please give her a scrambled egg, a bit of yogurt, and a pat on the head from me?

I too, have a similar story- I thought my hens had basically quit laying....until I found an area in the coop (In between 2 star bale walls) where they had made a nest- I found 11 eggs. LOL.......

All,

I just found a farm somewhat close to me that advertises that they have or will have day old chicks. I have sent them a message asking about immediate availability. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that they have at least a handful of day olds that I can get within the next couple of days.

Oh by the way, my wife corrected me (they are good at that aren't they guys!!!). She is not against getting more chicks. She was offended that I was making her out to be the bad guy. She really is not. She is very supportive of my addiction with them and she totally enjoys watching them too. So if I painted the wrong picture of her to all of you sorry.

I am so glad the wife was good with getting some chicks for her. Thats sweet. No-one should fault her for not being a chicken addict like the rest of us.... lol.

she doesn't look like the bad guy... just someone who is good at teasing and let me say that if you were my Simon I would have worked it for all its worth (and he me)...

good luck on your day olds, if I could I would send you some!

I have had to do this exact thing. I had several explode, I cracked 2 almost ready to hatch and then had to kill one, and luckily had one survive. It was terrible. Plus I couldn't let my momma chica raise her baby because my other hens were brutal to the baby. I hope I have another broody this year, and I hope you and I both get to have better experieces someday.

So sorry about the little chicks.

I would give her a break from being broody before having her sit again. Just to get her strength back up. Since she was so determined once she probably will do it again.

Or you could slip some chicks under her..she probably would love that.

jrleader99~~~So what I'm hearing is that your lovely wife is an enabler???? as is my DH. I think they need a sub-site, Truth be told my DH could be a team leader.
