This doesn't keep anything out, but it does let you click a button instead of running out to the coop to check every noise... a baby monitor with night vision.
Ours doesn't reach, so we added an additional intercom system to it.

The wire is not "dangerous" to anybody. It just gets your attention and gets the memory working. Now a child will cry first time, but there won't be a second. Like my oldest boy one day when he was 3 wanted a taste of the lemon I was eating. I tried to tell him it wouldn't tast good. He insisted. I gave it to him and his face turn inside out. Then he said "coooold daddy". We know it wasn't cold, just like the wire in not burning. Just popping. But the youngster won't believe it.
