My flash skills are limited as well. I just sort of aim it up to the top of the foamboard to get it to bounce (softer shadows) and hope for the best. Really any camera will do, it doesn't have to be an SLR. The only difference using a point and shoot might be a greater lag time between when you push the shutter button and when the camera takes the picture. The 30D is only an 8mp camera. I'll have to use my boyfriend's Canon S5 to see how that does compared to my 30D.
Yeah, honestly, I hate shooting with flash. My pics always come out washed out. I have a sony cybershot w100 right now... I've never liked using flash, unless I absolutely have to.
The foamboard; do you get that at wal-mart? Or michael's? I'll have to try that!
I know for sure Michael's has foam board, walmart might too. I need to get a background that has a color to it. Taking photos of white silkies against a white background isn't working so well.
