Good morning. I am supposedly acquiring a male pet Turkey, (Bronze) in July from a woman who cannot house him because she is losing her home. I will be housing him in a large horse stall with access to a enclosed paddock next to my chickens. I want to get him a female turkey friend. However, all of the hatcheries only sell straight run. Does anyone know anybody in northern Illinois or southern Wisconsin? Thank you!

Check on your local craigslist and/or Facebook. You should also talk to the people at any local feed stores. Local feed stores often know their customers personally and will know who is raising turkeys. They often have a board where you can post wanted ads. Chain stores might have employees who know locals but more often can't really be helpful.

So thanks everyone but talk about small world. Older gentleman came into TRavtor Supply this morning thinking he bought 11 wild turkeys from Big R but I told him they are Standard Bronze. He was going to release them into the woods. I told him I would take three from him. Lol. How ironic I should post this and hours later this 70 year old man stops in to buy turkey feed and I start talking to him!!

Thank you for the info. I called Big r in McHenry and they were selling broad breasted bronze meat birds. I don’t want those. I called the old man back and told him it would be better if he butchered them at the appropriate age because they will be in pain if you let them live because they are so top heavy. What kind of turkeys do you breed? I would be interested in yours.
