Seeking suggestions: What is a good breed to have in the city?

I just recently moved into a more compact neighborhood and am looking to try a different breed than my noisy barred rocks. The way our backyard is set up we will have to place the coop within close range of a neighbors house on any side.

I'm hoping to find something that meets the following requirements (listed in order of importance):
-does well in confined spaces
-is relatively quiet
-frequent layer

I feel like I'm almost asking the impossible..but maybe someone out there can help me out!

Actually there are many chicken breeds who will fit your needs!

Australorps, Buff orpingtons, Barred rocks, EEs, Speckled Sussex and Cochins all lay well and do well in confinement.

Buff orps and Cochins can be a bit loud though.
