Seems like CANCER doesn't discriminate

I spent a lot of time over ten years with my son's step daughter...helped raise that kid...took her to school...picked her up...she stayed with me after school until her folks got home from jobs...just a lot of time...she is sixteen and a beautiful child...she is dying...stage four diagnosis and yesterday, she declined any further treatment as nothing was working...more cancer than bone...the treatment was brutal and ineffectual so she has basically gone home to die...pain control is all they are doing for her...there was a divorce six years ago and the kid in living on the other side of the country...I will not get to see her again, not on this side of living...it is heartbreaking...

My father died of cancer and my sister has myeloma...it is a wicked disease and I wish the powers that be would spend as much time searching for cures and answers that they spend on making weapons and other stupid, destructive things...

There are a lot of factors that we can't control - genetics, exposure to chemicals in everyday items, etc. Cancer doesn't care who you are. My mom was a healthy, fit, breastfeeding mama when she found stage 2 cancer in her breast. She happened to have the type of cancer that breastfeeding does not prevent.

I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with this. My best wishes to you and your family.

So many young lives taken...I'm so very sorry and it is absolutely heartbreaking beyond what I can imagine.

My best friend's daughter had a best friend her same age, 13 years old, who died at 13 of bone cancer and spent her last days at my best friend's house because her parents were distracted by other things. I'm sure the love you have and gave this sweet child is a comfort to them now. I'm so very sorry.

The science IS there and it IS correct that you DO have a HIGHER chance of cancer with certain behaviors. That does not mean these certain behaviors GUARANTEE cancer just signifigantly raise your CHANCE. Not to mention eating healthy makes you feel good, look good etc so WHY NOT EAT GOOD?? I have been type 1 diabetic for 24 yrs. and ate GOOD before the diagnosis but have eaten almost EXCELLENTLY since diagnosis. Back to cancers-there ARE some that call certain foods MIRACLE cures and they're not too far off but it depends on how you percieve what they are saying. You don't eat ONLY the "miracle food" but balance your diet daily with good decisions on ALL of your eating. Sorry but having lived my life for 52 years and I am NOT the brightest bulb in the world but I know the way I have lived LESSENS(NOT eliminates!!) my chance of nasty cancers. And I have JUST as much fun(probably MORE!!!) as the cig. smoking, beer guzzling, fat eating. And I look good, smell good, feel good and that is NOT conceit but pride and knowledge of my behaviors. I am compassionate for those that are addicted to bad ways but come on...... You have to take credit for your life and LOVE yourselves more and do all thats possible to PREVENT bad health. Then you can probably feel better. AND eating excellent is NOT expensive(I am technically poor). Just challenging and interesting in my opinion!!! And I am very saddened when ya'll talk about your cancers and I may very well join you soon as my Dad is currently headed south with bone cancer after having beat protate cancer 25 yrs. ago(he smoked for decades, ate crap, drank and has always been slender) and my sister has cervical lesions that are pre cancerous and she has had several skin cancers removed (and she WAS a sun worshipper-and bad girl in her youth so probably contributed) So this is my life of learnings.
