Self-Blue Cochin Bantams

Self-blue is just about the prettiest color bird up against green grass, I will admit. As I have found out with the orpingtons, SB is not for the faint of heart. Also, the next time I choose a project, I hope I choose a BANTAM project. Do you know how much room Large Fowl projects take to do them right? (Don't answer this one Tom!)

The feather quality even looks good for pin feathers. My orps continue to have and almost brittle quality to them. Oh well, that is why they call them a project

This boy is really showing off your hard work. There is also a girl in there that I like. Do you get many that you consider too light?

Currently none out there I'd consider exhibition quality. None that I've seen anyway. Keep in mind they are not a recognized variety, so while they could be shown, the best they can do is BV/RV. Hopefully I'll be able to start letting some go soon so we can get a few folks breeding them. Qualifying meet requires 5 exhibitors that have been breeding them for 5 years. The challenge will be to find five breeders that will stick with it for 5 years.

Not thus far. I have a couple that I consider too dark actually. And so far I haven't done any Self-Blue X Self-Blue breeding. Maybe this coming year. That should provide some differences in shades for sure. It will be interesting to see if I can apply the same breeding stategy to the Self-Blues as I use with my Buffs.

What would that be?
