Hey! As y'all can see I'm catching up on all the posts....Not to be a bearer of bad news, but I had one boy to be a nice light even Lavender until he was 7 months old and then got darker feathers in his hackle and back... His wings were Lavender.... Very cute, but feisty...
So was he a Lavender or not, based on that? Bren?
I can't remember if it was more than the ones I have now.... I'll go look up a picture...
Y'all have a great day!

Bobbi,

The Lavender Roosters tend to have the darker coloring in their hackles. Bren says it might just be a male issue. Both of mine have the darker in their hackles, except for my Showgirl Rooster, but of course he doesn't have any hackles.

Why to make your Showgirl sound like the ultimate Lavender colored rooster. But then it clicked after I read the next few words! Haha

Glad you said that... The two males I bought have slight darker feathers. One more than the other, but the girl I have is clear. And they definitely don't have Blue or Splash traits. I have a third male that is an even color, with no splash marks, but is a slightly darker hue... would he be just a darker color of Lavender??? anyone? My first chicks from my Lavenders are hatching... SO CUTE...
I think it would be safer for people that are worried to sell anything as a split unless you keep them to maturity or know their offspring will be Lavender. The color is beautiful... Bren, yours are just stunning.... I want some when the weather is better.

Far from the expert on lavender here, but I remember seeing a thread on a different forum where the shade of lavender was fairly dark (ompared to the lavender norm), but the brids were definitely lavender (not silkies, though).

Since we are on the subject of lavenders.....lol! I have been trying to establish a flock of lavender silkies and I am finding it really difficult to get them from the breeders. I have bought eggs that were supposed to be lav. but were not when they hatched. These chicks are obviously white and blue. I did finally get a few lavenders from eggbid before it closed down. I have a pair that have ok coloring......few dark spots here and there. I also bought a lav. roo that has perfect coloring but lacks a little bit in type. My split lav/black hen has produced several chipmunk striped chicks from each lav. rooster. The oldest ones are about 6 weeks old and are mostly a greyish color with partidge type "mottleing" in the wing feathers. I am still somewhat new to silkies and the different colors but they look like what I have seen on the internet being called silver partridge. The same hen has also produced a few blacks with both lav. roos. I also, have 3 chicks that hatched from a nice pair of blues that I have. These chicks look like lavender but I know they must be splash. I have had splash chicks before but these I have now look different from the other splashes. You would mistake them for lavender unless you knew the parents were blue. At what age do they start showing the splashes of blue? These chicks are about 2 1/2 months old and do not show any dark splashes. Any thoughts on my "would-be" lavender flock would be greatly appreciated. I will try and get some pics up today.
