right? I saw her squatting in her hidden box and waited...waited..waited..then plop-perfect little egg. So I went on my business grabbing the other eggs laid and grabbed the silkie egg last-Grabbed to hard with another egg in my hand and smashed it-what an idiot! Im not too mad as I wasnt going to incubate it-Im waiting until at least another 1-2 start to lay to put them all together for incubation...still what a dope LOL

I'm kinda red faced, as the Showgirl babes I was so sure were lavenders turned out to be blues; they about have to be splits then. Their father is a black/lav split Showgirl cockerel from Brenda, and the hens are both black; one I know is split to lavender. The first babe hatched an even self blue color all over, but even it feathered out blue.

On the other hand, a couple of babes from my lavender cockerel from Deb and a lavender split hen of my own (daughter of my original lavender roo from Bren) produced four "mutts" and four that I'm pretty sure are lavs. Only two probable lavs and three "mutts" survived hatching--mom threw some of them out and I only got to one in time. The probable lavs have the muted striping that most of Brens lavs had before black was introduced into the line (my original was one of those).

If I ever get the server problem solved that prevents me from sending my pics, I'll try to post pics here. Two hens are on eggs now; both parents are from Bren's lavs in one pen, the other has a lav roo from Bren and a black/lav Showgirl pullet also from Bren. I've not had any luck with fertile eggs from the lavs up until now, but they are young and I didn't always handle the eggs correctly. At least I know the lavender silkie cockerel and the black/lav split Showgirl cockerel are fertile.

The other side of the coin is that I'm getting a LOT of nice looking Isabel Porcelains. My pullets all look a lot like George's (just not quite as nice); the cockerels look like splashes with a faint overlay of buff (they look like the cockerel I got from JohnF; out of George's porcelains)--but they are really nice cockerels.
