Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

I am definitely (come hell or high water) making it to Stevenson, WA (which is just a gorgeous venue, if you haven't gone and you live within driving distance you are missing out), I am going to go to Great Falls, Montana unless transport falls through, and I hope to be able to make it over the pass (oh, the dreaded winter weather in the Cascades) for the Winter Brisk in Chehalis, WA.

All of them are a minimum of 3.75 hour drive for me, but the fun makes it all worthwhile. The people are so lovely.

I hope to be able to catch a breath long enough to get some pictures this weekend. I laundered my 'backdrop' sheets yesterday since chickens do as chickens will and shat on them last time, copiously.

Too bad you're in Washington State! I was hoping you were in SE Washington DC. That would be 35 miles from me.

Let me second this question: WHERE IS EVERYONE GETTING THEM??????????

I've been looking and e mailing and searching high and low but can't find any. So if this is a Secret Society with a secret handshake and encrypted passwords.........JUST LET US IN!

It is kinda right now. People who have them or are getting them are good friends with someone with them:) They are in the rare category-when it comes to getting them...persistance pays off though for most-or start with hatching out eggs from these guys. Gotto start somewhere. Thats what I did 2 years ago-from scratch-now finally after 2 years my splits are laying and each egg laid is a 25% possibility of getting a pure lav:)

Anyone planning on showing their Lavenders this fall? I may bring out a few later on to some local shows, the heat has just taken the condition out of all the birds. How has everyone made out with the summer heat from

!

I may show one or two at Shawnee, OK in December. This year it is APA Nationals, so the usually large show will be twice as large. I plan to show some Isabel Porcelains also.

Lavenders are still scarce and expensive; hence the difficulty obtaining them. Nothing secret or exclusive; just few available.

Well I showed a few in the spring and only at close by shows so as not to stress them to much for breeding. As far as being rare, I have a bunch of Lavenders & Porcelains. More than I need for my breeding pens. At first I wouldn't sell them because I wanted to make decent breeding pens, but I have them so now will be offering up some this fall. I prefer to hatch them out and let the birds grow a little before selling, that way I can judge the results of my breedings. I also have been able to make a few nice Calico silkies and will be bringing a few out this year.

Brody's B. Any chance you could show us some pictures of the lavenders and porcelains? I would love to see them, even if I can't get them right now.

Also, what is the difference between a Porcelain and an Isabel Porcelain?

So what does everyone think of these?

These were hatched out of eggs sold to me as lavender. Well, as you can see they don't look like pure lavenders but possibly splits? They're about 2 mos old now and they actually look pretty nice even if they aren't lavenders. I was planning on keeping a few and breeding them next year to see what I end up with.
