Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

calico is three colors and must have clearly white and black on them. Saw only one in my lifetime to honestly fit the name calico and boy was it ever. A dear friend of mine owns him.

So would Rose grey be Grey with red.

in a sense:) I explained her parents above.

Calico is splash with red. This is according to George, who coined the variety name, and so that is what I consider it to be.

Cuckoo X Partridge? I assume daddy was a cuckoo as she is obviously a pullet? I'd love to see a photo that is true to life colour on her. Sounds very pretty.

Wouldn't cuckoo x partridge render more of a pseudo crele look?

he was also the one who coined porcelain.

Gotta say if I found red in a blue based bird. I'd throw it out along with the parents
no disrespect to you or him...

Dads a cuckoo and she's a pullet. cross would go better the other way IMO

I'll try and see what I did w/ an outside photo of her.

color is slightly better in this pic

I think we dropped the ball at the show. We have to usually remind the judge to pick Champion AOV for the club.

Did not know about this Bren.

We are loving the show pictures!

Bren - I think your car set up is great! The hotel pictures are awesome... my husband is glad to know we are not the only ones braving silkies in a hotel.
Great job... thanks for all your hard work for these beautiful creatures!

Fried Eggs... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your rose grey... what's her name? A-DOR-A-BLE!

LOL They do take ALL the AOV and lump them and pick from the BV of each variety. Some judges just don't understand silkie folks.

I had never seen that judge before and when he lit up a cigaret I was shocked! You'd think that would be a fire hazard too?

It was really a treat to meet so many in the flesh! Y'all probably know I have it all mixed up again now that I am back and just looking at your ids here. I can say, it won't happen again any time soon. Going in and out of 6 states was a bit much for all of us...birds included!

THANKS go out to all who supported the lavenders...shhhhh self blue, by breeding/showing or just giving us your well wishes as we have worked on this. One more show and hopefully we will have them IN!

Was Deb giving the birds shoe tips? LOL

I started showing and borrowed my daughter's Element to haul in and realized it was PERFECT! I bought my own three years ago and have learned to really fit a lot of birds in. I can put those 9 in without raising or removing the seats. If I remove the back seats I can carry 18 carriers. The test will be trying to fit in another 6 when we go to Shawnee. I told Deb we don't pack for us...we just go to Wal-mart and buy what we need after we unload birds. LOL 24 carriers equals 48 birds if we carry them double. Now what to do for the sale birds?

I understand your pain! I have a Honda civic 4 door... to go to the shows this fall I took out all the upholstery in the rear and, for the show I hauled the most birds to, I 6 4-hole show crates, 1 swan box with a Dewlap Toulouse, 1 carrier with a sebastopol, and two additional cat carriers with a couple show birds.

Normally this wouldn't be too bad but the sebastopol honked every few seconds the entire, 10+ hour, drive... and I had unexpected car troubles in the middle of nowhere, MT. I didn't know if I was going to make it through the weekend at that point. More recently I had a much more comfortable trip with only 4 4-hole show crates and the rest was the same. Every time I load or unload I can't help but think of clown cars in cartoons....
