I know you are asking Bren and Deb, and good grief...I know they have better info than me, but I would do both, side by side. You never really know what the breeding will be like. You may have wished you kept the pure lav and it will be too late if you get rid of him now. I would keep him until the others are breeding age and you see what they are producing for you. Then you can send him off with no regrets!

I agree with Jen. I've seen some gorgeous roos throw so-so babies and a not as lovely roo can throw great looking babies with the same hens . It's such a crap-shoot really. If you aren't "pair breeding" it's difficult.

I have yet another question. You can breed black and lavender and get splits and you can breed lavender and buff p get porcelin right. So can you breed porcelin and lavender? How bout black and porcelin?

Breeding buff x lav does not make porcelain. That first generation, you will get birds that appear buff x black and will carry a single copy of the lav gene. Breeding back to the lav parent will produce 50% smutty buff split lavs, 50% buff with lav, also known as isabel, not porcelain (although many mistakenly call this porcelain). True porcelain is made up of columbian, buff, mottled, and lavender, not just buff and lav. Lav x isabel will throw birds similar in appearance to the isabel parent, but with more lav visible. Breeding isabel to black will produce smutty buffs carrying lav.
