Oh so cute!!!

OK quick confirmation. All lav splits meaning Lavender Sire over black, or another color will always yeild 50% that are not carrying the gene and 50% that do have the lav gene right???

I am putting up possible split pullets today and already have put up pairs on eggbid also I have been seeing others selling full lavs so maybe you could pick up a full lav pullet then figure out which one of your 5 roos are carrying the gene.

Those numbers are a correct in theory. But real life does not work that way. You can breed Lav to whatever, and get all dark offspring carring Lav gene in a hatch, aka split lav chicks. You can hatch 12 chicks get 10 lavs and 2 dark that are not carring lav. You can breed 2 split lav chicks & get 4 lavs & the rest split or some split with a few that are not carrying the lav gene. Mother nature does not follow the numbers game. So to answer the question, you just need to breed your birds and follow the results & keep records.

oh yes I understand that I just do not want to misrepresent the birds I am selling as they are splits but I can not as you know garantee they actually have the lav gene by the same token I dont want people to think the dont have it either and have them not sell. So I basically said there was a 50% chance they do have the gene and that the only way to know for sure was through breeding them with a confirmed split or a full lav.

Exactly, now me I have had enough splits that I have bred on & can tell from experience which one's have the best possible chance of passing on the Lav gene. But there is always a chance that they don't pass it on. I have had Very good results with the one's in my particular line of birds.

Okay, Thanks! I will check it out. My roos are from revolution mama which were 1 month old when I got them. Thought 2 were going to be pullets but did not happen.
