Just had a hatch today. I got Lavs & Porcelains out of the Show pullets for the spring shows. I also got 7 chicks from my Calico project! That was bittersweet, I lost their dad last night. He choked to death on his dinner, an hour before he was breeding his hen. Go figure!

I want to cry! I put 19 split lav silkie eggs in bator to hatch out for chickenstock-I hatched out 2 of them 3 days ago. I just checked and pipped all the remaining 17 and all either quit or died from shrink wrapping!!! Im so sad!!!! Im keeping the 2 little ones home--its too much to pack an extra crate for 2 tiny babies when I have 6 weekers to bring too:-(

Brody's congrats on your hatch:) Now that is some good news!!!

But you'll have chicks

How bizzare! I didn't know a chicken could choke on his food. A string, wire, plastic, I can understand but dinner?
We do everything we can to house them, protect them, feed them treats and then something unexpected like this can happen.

Congrats on the new chicks. Your hens I saw at Susquehanna were simply spectacular. The little lav pullet to die for.

Dang, April I'm so sorry... I lost my gorgeous black cockerel last week for no reason that is apparent. Fine in the pen with 4 of his girls in the morning and dead in the same pen in the afternoon. No injuries noted...just dead. And I can't find a black cock or breeding cockerel like him anywhere!!!

That is sad that your hatch failed. I am having shrink wrapping issues and my Humidity is reading okay. I need to invest in a better thermomator. Some are hatching without issues.
Where is Chickenstock? I grew up in Chester County PA and we moved to Colorado 6 years ago. I should come back East for a visit!
