Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

WOW! He looks just like my White Rooster.

I opened the box and seen the fluffy butt and my eyes nearly fell out. I had never seen something so poofy.

He is one of the best looking lavenders I have ever seen. Please please put me on your list for when you sell hatching eggs. Or maybe me can do a trade.

If you don't mind me asking what breeder did you buy him from? And how much did you pay?

Beautiful, Just beautiful.

I also wouldn't mind knowing who you got your lavenders from. Also how much did you pay if that's not to personal. If u don't want it on the forum but you don't care about telling me send me a pm!

Everyone has beautiful birds, I do not know what my friend was saying when she said Lavenders do not have good type. Most of the Lavenders I have seen on this thread has been amazing looking.

If you go to Deb's & Brenda's website, they explain alot about the Lavender color & their breeding of it. The 1st Lavs that Deb got did not have the best type, she then bred to her White's to improve the type. After that was accomplished she then went to Black to improve the skin tone. She was going for the really nice dark black skin on the Lavs. I believe this is where the whole "you can only cross Lavs to Black" mindset came from. Not by Deb or Brenda but by those who read their website and took the info and ran with it. If you look at the f1 breeding chicks you will see that they have the "chipmunk" stripes, just like I have posted pictures of. Those we the Split Lavs that they used in their next gen of bredding. With that being said, there are no rules as to breeding, just those who have done the work, so that others can see the results and make their own decisions based on proven results. I have a few birds from Brenda that I will be crossing into my Lavender & Porcelain stock in the coming months. Since my birds are not related to thier stock or George's, I look forward to the results of those matings.

I do not wait to be mean but who is Deb and Brenda? I am new to Silkies and I do not know the names of people yet.

It sounds really exciting this whole Lavender color. I really want some!

Deb is of Fawkes Feather Farm and Bren is Brens Birds of Paradise. They are very well known for Lavender's. I have 4 of their Lavenders. You can't go wrong buying from Bren or Deb. They work very hard on their Lavenders. They are also very very nice people. I enjoyed meeting them both, and had a blast at their places.

I have a younger Cockerel, that I need to take recent pics of, but I think he is going to have of a super fluffy butt.

Here's my Lav Rooster I just got from Bren: He isn't in condition and had gotten into a fight and gotten his feathering messed up some. He really could use a bath. He'll be fuller this summer. This was Bren's last year breeder bird. She replaced him with one of his offspring. I also have two of his offspring.

This is Deb's last year hen: She isn't in condition either, she was in a breeding pen, so she'll look much better this summer.

This one is a pullet from the Lavender Rooster I have. Her crest is even larger now. This one is going to have a large crest!

This is a little Cockerel in his lanky looking stage, but he is filling in nicely. He is also offspring from my Lavender Rooster. He is much better looking now, I need new pics. He is going to have a nice crest and I think he'll have a nice big fluffy butt. This picture doesn't even really look like the same bird anymore. I'll get another picture of him this weekend. But, it shows his coloring, which is a very nice and even Lavender color. He also has nice tight wings.

They don't really have silver in their hackles, but they do have a slight brassy color. But, if you breed the Lavender Roo back to a black hen, then the breed the offspring back to the Lav Roo, it will take the brassy color out. Or most of it anyway.

I believe my Cockerel is a Black based breeding (I think that's what Bren said). So far, he is showing no brassy color.
