Well....I'm Brenda in PA and this is my 9th year for silkies. I've had great one and bad ones and loved them all.
. The crest is the last thing to come out so this is usually insignificant at this age. The crest are all full of feathers, so I would expect great crest on all of them. The wings are nicely shaped and wing feathers are all coming in nicely and they all have big fluffy butts! Foot feathering is light.
One thing I do is wean them off med chick starter right into gamebird starter.
This is my favorite time with silkies, I like to play "guess the sex" with photo's. Sometimes, when you look at thier pictures it just jumps out at you. I'm usually right!
I just went through my 5 wk olds, banding and taking notes on toes, combs & crests w/pics.
I have an interesting chick that hatched out with chipmunk markings. I now suspect her (my guess) to be a lavender or at least a split.
