OK Matt you are not allowed to post anymore until you get pictures!!! Im happy for the silkie but the call babies Im dying to see LOL...I have 1 under my hen and she cooking away:-)

Your not the boss of me. Hahaha Jk. That saying was sooooo 5th grade. I will get pics as soon as possbile.

I have a NEW question about Lavs...
I've been checking out the ads on BYC, eggbid, and ebay and I'm starting to notice quite a variety of Lavs. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought Sonoran recommended that Lavs and split Lavs be bred to blacks....to keep the color pure. I'm finding gray Lav splits...partridge Lavs...penciled blue partridge Lav splits, etc., etc.

So---whats the REAL recommendation? or is it just a matter of preference or experimentation?

Thanks

I dont know about any others..other than lavs to blacks and splits of that mating-thats all Ive been working with for so long:-)

All the babies are cute! I hatched 1 Call out of 8 in the incubator( most made it til the LAST day even absorbing the yolk but never made it out) and I have 6 Call eggs under a broody hen. That is how my whole silkie thing started. I wanted them to sit on Call eggs. Ended up falling in love with the silkies too. Why can't we just pick a direction and head that way? Oh no, I am all over the place! I am also breeding Blue Eyed White Lionhead rabbits.

AND some people (you know who you are) take the incubator on vacation and come out with a hatch! I think that is so cool! I found the thread and read the whole thing. Talking to my friend in PA today and told her about it. She is going to read it too.

Someone, I believe Sonora but could be wrong, said they would not use a broody hen to try and hatch Calls again. I would like to know the reason so I am going to try and find the thread. Any ideas?

It's best to breed Lavender to Lavender

or

Lavender to Black and then breed the offspring back to the Lavender Rooster. That will give you about 50% Lavender offspring and darken up the skin, comb and wattles.

It's not recommended to breed to Splash, but I am breeding my Lavender Roo to my Splash hen, just because she is an awesome hen. It will take me awhile for pure Lavenders, but I have time. I want offspring with her type and esp her crest. Although I do have a Lavender pullet that has the largest crest I have seen on a Lavender bird. She is going to have to sport a ponytail, so she can see. It just keeps getting bigger!

you might mean some of my listings, let me explain...

I have full lavenders and am using a black and 2 buffs for splits, in an effort to make Show Girl lavs and not having any all black sg I used my Gray ones that have all sorts of colored genes in their backround. I did this more for myself than for selling and ended up with some penciled and all sorts of grays and such. They still share the lav roo so they are splits but had I had just black SG I would have breed them. I just used what I had.

I am now at the point where I have kept the ones I want and am selling some culls, or extras.

Haha that was the reason behind me getting silkies, to hatch out my duck eggs! My Call surprisingly went broody and hatched out babies herself, but I really like the silkies so they will stay!

Thanks ahappychick
I don't really know who had the unusual split Lavs. Lavs are where I'm heading right now (with some split Lav eggs, etc) so I try to do as much reading on the subject as possible. I was just wondering if I had missed something, somewhere along the way.

lol I am not the only one with starnge looking splits but I do have several up on eggbid now my user name is Soozin44. I really love the penciled ones if I had more room I would work on that coloring also. I have a few older ones that I am going to breed this fall I wonder is some of the penciled will have the gene and others will not strange things are happening as I cant remember actually hatching out a penciled partridge cockerel I think all the ones with good penciling ae pullets, maybe there is a sex link gene somewhere in there???

I was hoping my Call would go broody. I left two eggs in the nest hoping she would gather a clutch and start sitting. Went out the next day and both eggs were out of the nest laying spread apart. I do no know who did it. Picked them up and will probably incubate them.
