Ok guys I have some question that I hope to get some anwsers to

1. 2 of my lavenders are now getting what looks to be a splash pattern to them. They are getting some dark patches in their tail and body. Is this something that will be able to be bred out of them?

2. One of them has what looks to be buff coming in on the hackle feathers, so buff must be back in the lines? and can this be bred out of them?

3. When I got my chicks they had told me not to inbreed them becouse They may throw differant traits as when they were cross breeding to get the lavender color there were other breeds involved.( So I got chicks from 3 differant lines) any truth to this? I am planning on mixing up the lines anyway just wanted some input.

I think that is all the questions I have for now. I will try to post pictures of the possible splash and buff crosses tomorrow. Thanks

I have said this a lot, lavender/self blue, is not blue or splash. They are all different varieties and crossing them certainly confuses the gentics. JUST BECAUSE A BIRD LOOKS LAVENDER DOESN'T MAKE IT BREED LAVENDER.

The buff or gold was a problem with my lavenders BEFORE we crossed them back to black which "nearly" completly removed that problem in the cockerels. Inbreeding has not been a problem for a short period of time. Our lines are quite mixed up now with the new black lines introduced year before last.

If the lines are not pure it will take you a couple of generations to get them back to full lavenders, once you do have some pure on one side or the other of your breeding program.

They were sold to me as Lavenders. I saw alot of the birds but...... they did breed other colors ( splash and blue) to lavenders. I am just hoping they didn't know the chicks could have been a splash cross when they sold them to me. I am really not too happy with this situation!!!!!! But it is what it is.
And I have been trying to find some black splits or just black to cross with mine but no luck so far.

Here is a picture of one of our pullets from our Lavender & Porcelain projects. She is a STUNNING Blue with the biggest crest I have ever seen, and it is no way near finished filling in. Not too bad for a split lavender, especially since she was one of those chipmunked striped chicks that pop out of that pen all the time.
