Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

For the show this last weekend, I entered 2 of my pullets as 'blue fawns'. I got the hint beforehand that if I did them under porcelain with this particular judge that he would DQ them instantly. Lots of people that didn't raise silkies that really liked the color. They go to the Hutch show in a week and a half and I left them as porcelains.

Amy
Connie B and I had a talk about what to really call porcelains. Both of us agreed pastel fits the bill. I've brought this up in different places, but unlike lavender there aren't that many to really get the ball rolling on a variety name change.

I know several people, including me, who are working on porcelains. I think it will become important to collectively decide on an appropriate variety name. I have three or four dozen of them, and my first youngsters have been laying for several months. So far, I'm keeping the cockerels and pullets separated, as I don't have room for their babes. I'm still getting babes from the parents.

Thank you for your input sonew and bacres. I still haven't develped an eye for lavenders yet LOL! I am thrilled with them all and to finally have any silkies. The lav splash should be split for lav at least so maybe there will still be a chance somewhere along the line.. Here is another photo when they were first born...different lighting.

I've been working on porcelain for several years and I never thought the name should have been pinned on them. To me pastel fits. or maybe self blue apricot

flgardengirl~~as Bren explains, that's the MAIN reason for breeding ONLY black/lavender splits--the chicks can easily be identified immediately as either black or Lavender. When you split Lavender to any other color, NOONE can identify the chicks as either Lavender or the other parents color.
