So, technically a gray is really a 'patterned Lav" then? I really need to buy one of those genetic books or something. This is all confusing. I'm a very fast "hands on" learner...but just reading etc. it takes me awhile...sorry

Play with the chicken calculator; cahnge one gene and see what happens, then change a 2nd, or go back to the original and change something different.

Easiest way to learn is one gene at a time.

I know how you feel I can never keep up with this thread, and when I do it usually is in the middle of a big debate and gets washed over lol. I had a big loss this winter as well. I had a branch fall from the snow during the night and it ripped a hole in my coop and I had a possum get into my lav flock. Needless to say I took a BIG hit. Luckily I had moved a bunch the day before so my loss could have been worse, but at least 10 good lav and split juveniles were lost.

As for the possum I located him hiding in the coop and took care of him.

I got so upset and there are so many storms still coming in that I moved all of my lavs to the garage coops.

I hope I won't make anybody upset by posting this here but does anybody know if "Satin Silkies" has been taken? My daughter said we need a "name" and she likes this one....here's the link if anybody wants to look at it. Need some help. And if I'm out of line, please delete my post...Thanks a bunch

There is already someone who uses that name; maybe not here, but that is the name they advertise as, so I don't think you should use it. Sorry. (Offhand I don't recall who it is.)

I'm very sorry for the losses y'all have all taken to your birds.

Hopefully things will pick up.

On other note, this might seem like a really dumb question, but I'm rather new to genetics, is self-blue the same as lavender?
