My chick isn't doing well. WHEN it gets it's legs umder itself it can walk, but most of the time it sits with both legs extended straight out in front. Has anyone ever seen this before with any chick?

I am new to this thread and just received my first set of silkies and love them I have a white and black one. I need to go out and see if they are both hens or a hen and roo. DH surprised me with them. I actually had to get online last night to see the difference between the two. Love the white one she/ he looks like a big fluffy cotton ball.
the black one looks like he has a touch of gray in him as well. I will try and get some good pics of them today when we go out later to start cleaning up the hen house and add new shavings.

I have some Bantam Cochin's as well with the silkies. For my regular flock, have some Rhode Island Reds, Plymouth Reds, silver lace wyndotte hen and roo, red sex link hen, have several eggs in the bator, hoping some of my EE eggs hatch. then on the hunt for some silky eggs.

I had one do that a little over a week ago. I taped it's legs and it was up running next morning. It's fine now. You'll have to either tape the legs or use the band-aid method, except your going to put the tape/band aid above the knee caps not above the ankles.

I would love more info on that BIG June one. I have been playing around in BBS and White Silkies. I also got Rosecombs and starting Bantam Cochins. The rabbits are still good. Added Geese as well and pheasants too!

Hi Everyone I just hatched my first silkie chick from my own silkies and I was trying to figure out the color of this chick.

At first I thought that it might be a splash but the roo is a black lavender split with black/split and blue pullets.

Looking at the genetics color chart it looks like I can only get blue or black from blue or black parents, and so there is no way is it splash.

Did I just have beginners luck and the first chick that I hatched is a lavender?

Let me know what all of you think as I am a newbie with this color.

Thanks!!
