Self righteous postal worker

I think that shipping live animals is not a very good idea. Seems best to try and purchase them local. I do have to drive about an hour and 20 minutes to get my chicks. I work at ups (united parcel service) and we do not ship any live animals except fish, insects, and some reptiles, only next day air, and only in approved packaging.
Also we are told to check any boxes we feel we should check. That means for ups and I would think also usps, that what is inside is her business. But as long as usps will ship baby chicks to make a buck her opinion on the matter should be kept to herself. Her feelings on the matter should be made to her employer, not the customer.

Sooooooo.....do magical fairies make the paychecks not bounce? Does the post office write IOU's to the government? Where does the government get the money to front the PO money to write paychecks when there is no money? Oh yeah...the taxpayers.

Many companies can operate in the red due to continued cash flows that exist despite losses. You are simply trolling and have absolutely nothing useful to contribute to the topic. I'm done arguing with you because you are either too lazy or too stupid to get your facts straight. Either way...have a great day.

Oh, sorry, there was a fly on your forehead.

I think the point made in Wifezilla's post was perfectly valid. Anyway, about the postal worker, it's too bad you didn't open the box so she could see how great the chicks looked and how healthy they were. If I were you. I'd have made a complaint, too. Glad the babies are okay!

People can continue ti insist that the PO is government funded but it's not. The PO is fundedsoley by the sale of stamps & services. No I'm not a Postal Service employee.

While the USPS might not technically be "funded" by the government is does receive government funds which come from tax payer dollars. If you don't believe me please go here: http://www.usps.com/financials/

"Appropriation
Request
At today’s meeting, the Board of Governors approved a fiscal year (FY) 2009 appropriation request totaling $117.7 million. This annual request to Congress includes $69.8 million in reimbursement for free services the Postal Service is required to provide, including free mail for blind persons and for overseas voting. The request also includes reconciliation adjustments for previous years based on final audited mail volumes, which are $2.8 million for FY 2007 and $16.1 million for FY 2006.

In addition, the request includes $29 million for the latest annual installment from the Revenue Forgone Reform Act of 1993. This act requires the Postal Service to be reimbursed for services it performed in 1991 through 1993 and for shortfalls in the reimbursement of costs the Postal Service incurred processing and delivering certain nonprofit mail from 1994 through 1998."

You are correct, it is funded by the sale of stamps and services however some of those services are government mandated. The government mandates that the USPS (and not a private company) perform those duties and the USPS benefits from that as you can see above. $69.8 million for free mail for blind persons and overseas voting is a pretty good chunk of taxpayer dollars.

The PO is running out of money. They are going to be delivering only five days a week here soon. They are also taking away the monthy gas allowance for the rural route carriers who have to drive their own vehicles on the route. Then people complain when the price of stamps goes up. The PO is just tryng to stay afloat in this economy just like everybody else and they are losing tons of business when people pay bills online. Think of the poor employees. I mean the carriers. They are losing a whole days pay plus the gas allowance. The gas allowance alone is $500 a month. It's sad.

I have lived in both Canada and the US (my husband is Canadian, and our children are dual citizens.)

Mail delivery in Canada as far back as 1991 came only M-F. It was so weird to move back here in 1996 and to get mail on Saturday again.

FWIW, my local PO folks are more than agreeable about me getting chicks/keets in. They love to check them out when I open the boxes to make sure everything got there safely. I am expecting keets tomorrow in fact, and alerted them so they could call me as soon as they come in (which they always do.)

I don't know how the USPS gets it's money (or doesn't) all I know is I'm unemployed for two months now becuase they had to "consolidate" runs and my run was terminated. They are hemoraging at the seams and those of us who were subcontracted are out of luck.

Maybe your postal clerk is related to Kanya West - he has a hard time keeping his opinions to himself. Some people have no idea the concept of "time and place" or how about "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".
