self waterer not refilling

I used to work outside all year along. In summer time I used to to put my plastic jar, filled 3/4, in the freezer the night before. In the morning I filled the rest of the water, and this would last cold for several hours. Now I do the same with my chicken waterers. Just take care you don´t it fill to much to avoid crackings.

Sounds like it just is a common flaw with the design - that is too bad.. especially when it is hot weather. i would be interested in the water cup idea.. self watering system.. is it hard to build?

not to hijack, but I agree with above poster, I would be interested in using the cups, what are all the parts you need to accomplish this?
1. pipe brackets
2. cups
3. float valve system

Did I forget something?

I just love this group for everyone's great ideas. Glad I could finally share one back. Cubed ice works fine. But if you hunt around the kitchen and find something that is similar shaped as your water reservoir but a tad smaller, fill that with water and freeze it. Then you get a big block of ice that will just fit inside their water reservoir and will last much longer. Then just refill the container and pop it back in the freezer for the next day.

X2---this is what I do too--especially since we have been having triple digit days and high humidity...my "girls" love it. They would here me coming with the ice and just come running to fight over who got tto the container first...and some wanted to lay up against it...LOL:cd
