But, considering the ethics, SHOULD you? Especially if you pretend they are your own pics? No.

Thats why i don't buy eggs off of ebay. I'm certianly not playing picture police, i can just imagine the looks of the current bidders face when they hatch out a bunch of hatchery birds!!!! LOL but i'm not going to sit with you and argue about ethics, frankly i don't care about the fine line and if you agree with picture stealing or not . I am going to make an account and email the seller and the bidder, because I don't agree w/ it. Wow, i knew someone would make a big deal of my post, i would be very grateful if someone emailed me and told me that was a fake picture, it sure beats paying $25 of eggs, postage, and then $25-$50 bucks on hay and food to grow them out and realize you got ripped off. Thats just me. Oh, and your right I DON'T know if they were used with permission, because it doesn't say photo used with permission.
Thanks..

The plot has thickened lol. I don't know if her story's true or not, but it's certainly creative. It still doesn't justify using the pics though.

@chicago I don't think you are able to email bidders on ebay.

I'm looking at all sides here ~

I understand that you are upset and that it is obvious that the OP's picture is stolen and that she objected and initiated action ~ however we don't know that for a fact in the other cases that the pictures were used without permission unless we first contact to picture owner and make them aware of it. Perhaps (although highly unlikely) permission was given even if it isn't stated on the ad.

It isn't proper to misrepresent other pictures as your own ~ but the picture owner should be notified first before theft accusations against others are made. Once you know for sure that the owner's picture was used without their permission then ~ send all the messages you want.

Well, I will say this: this thread has been very educational for me. When looking at watermarked pics on eBay now, I use the eBay option to look at an enlarged picture so that I can read the watermark, and then check that the watermark matches the name of the seller. I realize this is not foolproof - they could have stolen an unmarked pic and added their own watermark - but if the watermark does NOT match the seller name I will for sure be emailing them to ask why not.

I think you are way out of line. If that isnt your picture, you have no idea if he gave permission to use that photo or not. For all you know, that person bought eggs from him.

That's why Ebay's policy is to report a picture that you think is stolen to the owner of the picture and not to Ebay.

I did but it was after the auctions were over.......I emailed the people who had bought eggs based on my pictures from the person had stolen my picture and had been using it for his auctions. Some I never heard from....I don't know if they contacted the seller or not......and some emailed me back and said they were going to contact the seller about it.

Good point

At present, said I ever so tentatively, the two ebayers who were "borrowing" the Garry Farm Photos are no longer doing this.... Please let me know if you see any of our photos on other locations... Presently we have not given permission to anyone to use our photos. I'm working with a volunteer graphics designer to come up with a design that does not Hurt the pictures too much so You can still see them but makes it very difficult to borrow them. I could just give each of you a big hug javascript:insert_text('

',%20''); right now for the kind notes and the interventions you have done on our farm's behalf. I'm touched to tears to see how much you care. javascript:insert_text('

',%20''); It takes away a lot of the sting of this happening.

Thank you so much.. May God bless you for your kindnesses, and now I must go peek at the incubator...We have had a turkey born...I'm so excited!!!

Glad that for now, things seem to be going in the right direction. I need to start watermarking mine, but have not yet.
