I have 5 Welsh Harlequins, 2 males, 3 females, they are of the Holderread lines. I know many of you have seen them, I've posted way too many pics here

I am thinking of parting with one male. while they get along for the most part, the boys have the occassional scrap. but the one boy, he's over assertive to me, and only me, which irks me as I'm the one who feeds him, etc.

I've sat on him several times, works for a day or two, then he's back to giving me TUDE' I can't turn my back on the brat as I don't trust him not give me a pinch.

and one drake is probably better for teh 3 girls.

what could one charge for a drake of these lines? THat is my question.

He is pretty good quality, he is better then the one i'd keep, as the one I'd keep has more of a green bill and the one I'd part with has the yellow bill.
or should I just let it be. as they get along pretty well considering. double the protection for the girls this way too.

debating this.

You think he'll pass the 'tude to the next generation? Is it worth the prettiness of him? It's good to have a backup drake... and it does sound like he has lovely conformation... but maybe too much free time on his hands.

Could you get more hens?

he might pass it on, but, he only seems to have it with me

My hubby lets them out sometimes in the morning for me, and they just walk around him like he's invisible. go figure.

I have tried to find some new hens, few and far between. Like my one rooster, he too is being given another chance. But, unlike the roo who might become dinner , the drake might just need to go to a bigger flock of ladies somewhere else, I think you are right saying he has too much time on his hands.

I do think he'd be the better defender for the girls if a predator came in.

Gee, I wish I could talk you out of him. I lost my Snowy Mallard drake, Cameron, and his mate,Cutty, (BEI) misses him. It was just the two of them. Your drake could keep her company and since it is only me that goes into her pen, well, he can be as mean as he wants to be - sort of, there's no worries about him mauling children or anything.
Take care.

Has his aggression mounted very recently? I'm having aggression from my two higher ranking drakes but none from my lowly one, and I have just been told it is because breeding season is upon us. If it has started not too long ago, might it just be that as the top boy, he is doing what is natural?

He is definitely top dog over the other drake, and I've tried the sitting on them thing (not literally) but as someone suggested, but, I find that works for a day or two and then he's back at being too arrogant. and as well, when I try the above method, the boys fight afterwards, so I don't want to resort to that anymore.
Has anyone else tried that technique and noticed fighting afterwards amongst the boys.
They have a battle then are best friends again, strange birds.
