Selling baby chicks.

I'm having a lot of trouble getting all of these the same age. I live in ventura. If anyone can help out or recommend a place for me as soon as possible.

I sold my week old straight run Easter Eggers for $3 each or $12 for the whole lot (lot of 5). I sell my full grown mixes for $5 each. It took 2 days to sell them, adding pictures in my CL post helped a lot.

I've bought young pullets for $5.00 each - 8 weeks old
I've bought day old chicks for $5.00 each (straight run)
I've bought week old mutts for $2.50 each (straight run)

The average price for day old purebreds is $5 a chick. I think that is reasonable. I wouldn't charge more than $3 - $4 for a mutt.

It really depends where you are. Nobody in SC will pay more than $10 for a rooster no matter what you have, and you'd be hard pressed to sell a laying-age hen for $20. I just sold 4 6-wk old mix-breed chicks, however, for $5 each - I had advertised them at $4 two weeks ago and raised the price because they'd been sitting around eating my food. I think that's pretty fair and reasonable for my area - up to maturity, increase the price $1 every 2 weeks or $0.50/wk. Point of lay pullets are going to bring in the most cash. It amazes me when people try to sell 2-3yr old laying hens for $20.

The best thing to do is list them on CL or wherever and drop the price if nobody bites for a couple weeks.

I sell day olds - 4 week olds of my Buff Orps and my SLW for $8 each....and I can't hatch enough to keep up! One guy came by two weeks ago and purchased all 20 of my chicks!

Now, my BO's and SLW's are not from hatchery stock...and I advertise them on Craig's List as such.

My EE's I sell for $3 each (and they are from hatchery stock).

This is my fourth year....and so far, I've had no trouble selling chicks.

If you are up for a bit of a drive, there are lots of chicks around my area--Norco CA. If you check craigslist inland empire there are several private parties in Norco and there are several local feedstores on 6th St. in Norco with lots of chicks. Can't guarantee all your breeds and make some phone calls and I am thinking you could do very well.

CL is proving to be a real dud for me, and i'm only asking $2. because they are mixed breeds..

You could look on Craig's List and see what they are going for in your area. You can also advertise for free there. We have bought our chicks from several local breeders that had listings. Good Luck.

I figure any locally raised chick should be work 5 dollars. Eight dollars is a fair price
for a mixed breed rooster. I charge fifteen dollars for my crossbred pullets.
