Selling chicken eggs

I can tell you the "cheap" factory store eggs down here are almost $5!! I just paid $8.50 at Walmart - the cheapest "organic" eggs I could find on the shelf. Unbelievable what they're charging for eggs down here. Be grateful you're only paying $5 for good eggs those of you that have to store shop. It really sucks paying that price for a dozen eggs. We go through 2-3 dozen in a week. My budget is screaming over the cost of eggs. Our girls are not laying yet. :(

Yep, same here. Our girls aren't laying either, so we've just not been eating eggs and waiting for the prices to go down. :idunno

As long as I can at least break even it's OK. I sell their eggs at $2.50. I think the profit is around 50 cents per dozen.... 20241005_135500.jpg

2019, I severely fracture my right shoulder in a farm accident. I was in a sling type harness for over a year. I endured 4 surgeries to repair the shoulder and reattach the Bicep, Tricep and rotator cuff muscles....
I was suffering from depression and I believe watching my chickens from the back porch helped me through some really dark days....💝

The problem is it's difficult to cook or bake a lot of recipes without needing eggs. Is it what it is though - I don't like that phrase. I doubt the price of eggs will ever go back down to an acceptable level. I used to see eggs for sale signs around the area - not any more. Makes one wonder. I guess all the chickeners are hoarding their eggs....sounds like a good plan.

Northwest Ohio here...I keep up with the local egg prices and adjust accordingly. You are underselling for sure! I currently sell a dozen for $4.50 and 18 count for $6.00.

Glad to find this thread as I'm gearing up to greatly increase egg production next fall and want to start selling them. We live in Kansas so I'm thinking about $4 per dozen.

I really want to have the birds so that a dozen eggs will have everything from white to dark brown eggs in it. Is it worth the trouble? I know to make money selling eggs you need huge production. Is the rainbow dozen a powerful draw or do you think getting a bunch of heavy brown egg layers is just as good?

I have free-range Speckled Sussex and they lay large cream colored eggs. I never had a person say they don't like the eggs because of their color. They like the eggs because they are fresh, free-ranged and from happy chickens.
